They look great!  How did the foam hold up to wearing?

Hey! The foam, did absolutely great! The shoes look like they did after I made them! I was surprised of this myself!

Ooo... I found this completely by accident, but it's so helpful to see! I've been trying to find a good way to make Ventus's (Kingdom Hearts) shoes, but I really didn't like the other tutorials for his shoes out there. I was actually thinking something involving craftfoam, but couldn't get much further than that... This is perfect!

Wow, these look really good.
I started playing LoL somewhere last week and Vi was a free character and I have just fallen in love with her... so naturally I want to cosplay her at some point haha. This gives me a really good idea of what to do with the shoes.
How do you plan on handling the arms and such? Personally I would love to use papercraft, to get it in full detail, but I have never worked with that before (you have to import the model in one program, then edit it so it will actually work as a paper model, then make it printable....) it's going to be a lot of work! I want to make the fingers out of foam though, so that if I 'punch' things there won't be any dents. I'm still thinking about what to cover the paper (or cardboard really) with to make it harder.
I'd love to hear your approach :)

I'm working on the hands right now and I'm making them out of foam. The game model's fingers are too short (they lack one piece of finger from all of them), so i made my own. I'll post some tutorial on it soon :)

Great, I'm looking forward to it :)
In the meantime I also decided to make them out of foam (with latex on top and a core) so I can actually 'punch' people with them haha.
I'm working on gathering some random accessories and such first, because I have several other projects to finish before I can start ^^

Yeah, getting to punch people with them is a great plus! Looking forward to that! :)

Just a note on the tutorial itself- I think the original image and finished product pic should be side by side at the bottom so people can see the comparison. Just a thought ^^

So... You mentioned mixing latex with acrylics... And I was wondering... What kind of latex have you used so far? (what brand?) :meow:

Dunno, if you remember me, but I was also in the EuroCosplay with you, in the Haven Trooper cosplay. :dummy: And yeah... I have pretty bad expirence with foam shoes and acrylics. -.-'

It's an italian brand called Prochima. It's the only latex I could find in romania... and of course I remember you ;)I just didn't know this was your dA account :)

Really like it :D So when you painted the mandarin costume, you added latex to the acryls? Didn't it kill the brushes? : O
ShinjusWorkshop's avatar

Yes, it killed a lot of brushes! But I bought plenty of cheap ones. Also, I used sponge/foam to paint, too... it doesn't leave brush strokes :D
