WIP test sketch mock-up on the Gibson girl who is the main feature of my 2018 exhibit @ this year’s “Access The Arts” at the county fair.
As mentioned on a number of occasions before, whenever I work on a full-size canvas piece like this, I generally will create and do a study in rough pencils of the subject. I can make all my major decisions and any necessary changes in this stage on a cheaper medium without risking the more expensive final canvas. This is "technically" the first step; a matter of roughing out the subject’s profile.
What I was leaning towards for the final oil painting that I did was something reminiscent of a Edwardian era, Titanic era gibson girl; like that of a vintage cabinet card w/ the hand color tint that was typical of photos in the years before color film.
Completed preliminary sketch in graphite and Prismacolor grayscale; cir. June 2018
