I drew Sudan about two years back and today, the concerns expressed in that piece came true. The last male northern white rhino has passed on leaving just two females and an extremely bleak future for this subspecies. The main factors being poaching and an uninformed market for their horns which have never been proven to have any medicinal properties as this market claims(their horns are made of Keratin and you might as well chew on your hair or nails if rhino horns really did have medicinal properties). Clearly we didnt learn from the extinction of Western black rhino, will be possibly learn from this? Can we protect the other species/subspecies that are listed as critically endangered?
