Mariosona: Violet

This is not the first time I've had a super quick turnover rate for redesigning oc's and this prob won't be the last, but after seeing the Super Mario Galaxy movie I got a much better idea for how my sona could be designed and I think I def hit the whimsigoth/dark academia vibe I was looking for.

I also wanted to give her a better name that suited the universe more and once her design finally came together I figured Violet was my best option. I'm p happy with it and I'm excited to make more art featuring this design moving forward :>

Most of the story beats are the same. She's a young woman in her mid to late 20's who got isekai'd into the Mario universe some time ago through means she either doesn't know or doesn't remember (aside from it somehow involving this weird transparent pipe), and wandered for a while before realizing she was being followed by a small Goomba who seemed more curious than hostile. She earns his trust by giving him some teriyaki flavored jerkey to eat and seeks shelter with him inside an old library that appears to be abandoned.

At least, at first glance.

Until she spots the huge glowing book, sitting on the front desk. The pages inside are blank, but before she gives up completely, she finds it starting to talk to her through the pages, with words and pictures appearing before her very eyes. She's believed to be summoned to this world for some sort of divine magical purpose involving the library, namely in becoming the library's primary caretaker and guardian after the previous one disappeared (or passed away? Was kidnapped? It's unclear.)

She settles into the library and ends up making it her home, as it has a fully functional apartment loft near the roof/observatory. With the help of this mysterious book, she's given a series of magical abilities that allow her to restore the old library back into it's former glory, while also being able to ease, tame, and befriend the several boos that haunt the area. She's also able to change her appearance and attire at will to her liking, and is able to levitate/float (both herself and other objects), wield what the book calls "Imagic" (note: not a finished concept), and summon various objects and beasts from the book at will (similar to what Bowser Jr. can do with his paintbrush, except she does it with the book and her quill). She can also gain temporary abilities just like everyone else in the Mario-verse, however she does have some additional ones that can be summoned from the book if needed.

Needless to say, she settled into this life pretty quickly, and adjusted well. So well, in fact, that the library once cold and barren, was suddenly filled with patrons visiting regularly. Including various princesses and kings from around the world, some of whom she can now call friends. And she honestly couldn't be happier.

I love this new approach to her character so much and I really enjoy that I apparently channeled a little bit of Aphrodite (one of my other OC's) into this a little bit in addition to the whimsigoth/dark academia inspo. Gives me all kinds of warm, fuzzy feelings that she hasn't completely left my head and that she still influences my ideas from time to time. (Sidenote, in an AU context, Aphrodite and Bowser would be frickin amazing. I did consider Violet/Luigi as a potentially cute option while I was watching Galaxy so maybe I'll get to explore both those ideas at once at some point in the future. But I digress.)

Fun fact: The background image I used here is a photograph of a place in brazil called "Real Gabinete Portugués de Lectura" in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Which is a large part of what ultimately ended up setting this redesign in motion since that is what I pictured her library looking like, but I felt like her look didn't really mold well. Then after watching Super Mario Galaxy, it finally clicked.

So yeah. Life's good. :>

I hope you enjoy this updated version! I'm excited to explore some of the other new ideas I have for her, including new/revised ideas for how she and Bowsie might've actually met pfft. I had so many thoughts about Super Mario Galaxy but one of them was definitely that I was going to commit to giving Bowser a redemption arc in my AU, since regardless of who I ship him with, him being a villain kinda kills any chance in hell of anything happening since neither Violet nor Aphrodite would never accept that kind of behavior LOL.

I loved the movie and theres nothing wrong w them exploring the potential there only to have him revert back to villainy, esp since it ended up giving such cool results, but I am committing to following that thread on my own so we'll see what happens. :>
