Angry Stick 9: Ancient Ways

I can't be the only one who had these things. I mean parents. Where the hell are they in todays world? Let's just put it this way. Today, parents complain about how little control they have over what infuences their children. Now comes the story.

When I was a wee lad, my mother disliked guns and gun related violence. Just had some relatives shot so basically guns were not allowed in my play. Laser Tag was an alien concept to me but swords and such were awesome. Playing Ninja was the shit. Eventually, my mother caved on this and I got my first G.I. Joe figure. Now despite the fact that I got this when I was 9 and everyone else had G.I. Joes, she managed to keep me away from them with alternatives. She controlled what I watched and played. At the time, I thought it sucked that all my friends could play with toy guns but I had swords and shit. Growing up, it amazed me just how she controlled that aspect of my life despite holding three jobs at the time.

If my mother could keep me, a 9 year old, away from GI Joe, why couldn't a stay at home Soccer mom keep her child from Grand Theft Auto? Are they really so powerless in the face of media, or are they just lazy? From my time working retail, my opinion lies in the latter.

Now, what spawned this comic strip? This irresponsible and sickening display of journalism...
