Coming and Going

A tribute to the Metró of Budapest, which is by far the most important, secure and fastest way to get around the city. The rolling stock is exclusively from the former Soviet Union, sturdy, noisy, and long lasting, with some cars having reached a service life of over 40 years! They'll probably be replaced soon, so I took some photos while in Budapest for the holidays. This pic was taken on December 31st in 2007 at the terminus Örs Vezér Tér, one of the two stations on this line (M2) that are above the surface. Luckily, there was still enough light to leave the ISO as low as possible, as my crappy little camera loves to produce large amounts of noise. The grainyness and low visibility can be attributed to the fact that the snow was still falling as I shot this.

I really hope I'll get a chance to take some more pics with a proper camera before the trains that were so characteristic for Eastern European subways are finally taken out of service...
