EDIT: This locomotive was scrapped in March 2010.
Here we are, my 100th deviation. Along with my 10 scraps, what better way is there to celebrate this than with a pic of a dying breed: The class 110 on a cold autumn morning
Download for full size, as always.
I shot this today, after having arrived at Duisburg central station. While my train was slowing to a stop, I noticed a silverling train with its lights off inside, which already got my attention. The engine turned out to be a class 110, and I couldn't really make out which way it would be heading, as tail- and headlights were on at the same time. As I got off, it departed in the opposite direction of course, but as it went towards the depot with the engine at the rear, the headlights were still on! I kinda suspected that this probably means a change of direction, and I was right
It came back to track 2 to depart towards Düsseldorf, where I could finally get a halfway decent shot.
I used the camera's pouch as a makeshift mini-tripod (or rather monopod) to have it sit on the ground at a slight upwards angle, and thanks to the timer, I was able to make some non-blurred pics. Of course, due to the low amount of light available, it had a ridiculous amount of noise that had to be fought off with photoshop. I think it turned out quite OK, and I liked the perspective on this. Not to mention the engine itself, I'm always happy to find some 110s still in service, as many of them are being scrapped. I managed to shoot the next engine according to the serial, namely 110 381 before her death...
Anyhow, I hope you all like this one, despite some noise I couldn't get rid of. I will probably use the noise reduction along with smart object conversion more often from now on, as many of my shots have similar problems, so older pics might be updated. I wish I would have found this filter sooner...
