Bliss by Shastro Bliss by Shastro
This is the final image of my Fluttershy Clouds WIPs, It still has some problems, but to be honest I've really just wanted to finish it, especially since I've been working on it for months. Countless times I've had great ideas but had to shut them down because I had to finish the clouds first, but anyway here it is!

Made With Blender, and Photoshop

Render Information:
-Clouds Rendered over 23 Hours at 1200 Samples
-Fluttershy Rendered Over 1 Hour at 2500 Samples
-Total 24 Hours on a i7 with 8 gigs of RAM

Changes Since Previous Version:
-Added Particle Hair System!
-Changed World and Light Settings!
-Changed Densities on some clouds
-Changed Deviation Title
-Added signature thing
-Lots of little Photoshop things

What I plan on making next:
- A Custom Flutterbat 3D Print!

Other information:
-
I had to re-render the clouds because originally I hated them
-Rendered Fluttershy probably more than 25 times before I was mostly satisfied
-Fluttershy Clouds WIP 4 has been moved to the WIP folder in my gallery

Anyway I learned a lot in the making of this image, and it was a lot of fun, but as always THANKS FOR READING THIS FAR DOWN AND STAY AWESOME!

Wow... Finished at last! It turned out great, Shastro!
I know you say there are a few ideas you wanted to implement, and didn't get the chance to, but man, I think you could work on an image like this for an eternity and still want to change things about it.
The final render turned out beautifully. All the hard work (and render time ^^") really shows through. Congratulations, Shas!

Thank you so much! I think if I worked on that image for the rest my life I would never call it finished, that's why I decided to call it finished.

Thanks again and I look forward to more work from you as well! :)

So how did you end up simulating the hair? Is it following some bezier curves for the mane, and then free floating for the tail? I've always found it hard making simple pony hair let alone Fluttershy's hair.

You did a fabulous job!

I simply just used the particle edit mode, and combed the hair naturally, i used several particle systems for the tail, so i could comb sections of the hair without screwing up the rest (which is remarkably easy with the particle tools)

I have tried simulating the hair, and its impossible.

Thank you for the complement!

So you styled the hair for a single frame then? and it's not dynamic or able to be animated?

Well if that's the case it worked wonders for this render and I wish some day we could do this with dynamic hair settings

Yeah it was simply for a single frame, dynamics are difficult to pull off, I know for The first Monsters Inc movie Pixar had massive clipping issues, and for Brave they had to develop new technology to simulate her hair (" the latest in messy hair technology"). Currently I'm not sure if blender can maintain a hairstyle while at the same time simulate dynamics, it would need some fancy weight painting I think, but ultimately I think its possible, just not a solid enough feature yet for it to be of viable use, maybe try searching for addons?

I was going to simulate the tail, but I couldn't figure out how to get wind to affect it. For stills I definitely recommend the particle hair system, plus this image took 25 hours and a lot of photoshop to get it to look decent, expeccially when looking at the raw render: i.imgur.com/4PqF1MD.png

So an animation would not work in this case :(

Didn't know about the clipping in monsters inc., but I did know about the brave algorithms and such. I agree with blender not working well with hair, and cycles is taking forever these days on hair, better than it was a couple months ago but still pretty bad. You did an amazing job getting the sense of motion with the hair, so I applaud you on that for sure! I'll be happy to see what you make next :D

Thank You so much, just spend lots of time on your images, this one took me around 3 months to make, plus its hard to do with all my HW (I'm 15) I'm happy to learn that your exicted to see what I make next (pressures on) really really means a lot!

Cycles does take a while for hair, volumetrics are slower though, 24 hours for the clouds, at only 1200 samples (I can only imagine Pixar quality renders, their render farms still take up 30 hours a frame, part of the reason it takes years to make movies)

Thanks again and have a nice Friday Night :)

Volumetrics will torture any system period :.(

And that's quiet an accomplishment to pull off renders this good at a young age!
