These are her characters from a recent project her and *DemonGemini6 called the Taffetas. It's about how "Veil Taffeta, a man more concerned about fashion than the fact he has risen from the dead, and Gemini, an eccentric ex-sea captain, thought their lives together would be happy and simple; However, the lives they lead instead force them into circumstances of drama, humor, horror, magic, and tragic loss that threaten their dream of a normal life in a modern fantasy world." You can read more about this amazing idea on their blogThe Taffetas.

I found their art, blog, and story a while ago and was astounded by not only the world they created but by the depth of the characters and story.

I looked around for classic 1950s artists (to keep to that crisp, clean feel their art has) and found Mary Blair, who is classically know for doing the Disney artwork in the '50s. Her art combined with Pascal Campion, someone who is referenced for the Taffetas series, created the perfect tone for the pieces (there are more to come).

I will never doubt the complexity of simplicity. Haha. This is one of those pieces where everything was guesswork. Haha. Working with lineless art always makes me really consider how the color palette will have to look in order for everything to balance each other. But I had a lot of fun making this and learned a great deal!

In other news, I'll be back and producing more art than ever soon!

Oh man! Veil, Gem pretty much has you at gunpoint (or, in this case, stinger point!) You'd better just nod, smile and start formulating your escape plan!

Joking aside, I love the scratchiness of this piece - the unevenness of the frame and Veil's mortified expression. He knows he's doomed. He can hear the buzzing in his ear! I also like how you can see the bee cloud but it has just enough detail that we know what it is, without being over-detailed. This way, we as the viewer can read the bee cloud right away very easily. The textures look great, and the text really enhances the image. So classy but ominous! Better say the right answer, Veil!

Gorgeous! :D
