Designed to replace the unsuccessful Lola II the Lola III was big for a destroyer, almost as big as older light cruiser classes, but this mass was mostly taken up by her large engine bays and extensive weapons arrangements, making them cramped and uncomfortable ships to serve on.  Despite this they served admirably as heavy gunboats and when operating in squadrons of four or more ships were a threat to any vessel they might face.  Although the class suffered huge casualties in the Amaris Civil War, enough of them survived to be one of the most numerous classes in the exodus of the SLDF from the Inner Sphere where they went on to serve the Clans today.
