Butterfly Kisses by sharkrey Butterfly Kisses by sharkrey
UF3

For Ultrafractal's July "Spread Your Wings" contest.

No post. The butterflys are from, surprise, the butterfly formula in kec.ufm. The stripes are standard newton. With textures and mapping, each butterfly is 10 layers deep. The image is 42 layers total. Took right at a week to complete.

Thanks for viewing. Comments are certain welcome and appreciated.

#Update - 080105 - This image was vote runner up in the contest! YIPPIE!!!

Wow...how nice. But regardless of how I might do in the contest, the main thing was that I REALLY learned a lot doing this image. My UF skills bumped up a notch by the time I was finished with this...

awsome image man... i don't know why, but it feels like i'm in a Dutch coffeeshop when looking at this. Green leaves and the awsome jamaican looking butterflies. hehe
Good luck in the contest dude , it's gonna be a close one i think, looking at all the rest :)

Thanks Steve...

I had googled some butterfly images, and they all had these black stripes on their wings. So I was wondering how I was going to do that. Then, in one of those "aha" moments, I thought, "Hey, a 6 point Newton would be perfect!" so it worked out ok...

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.

Thank you, I'm flattered, but you're getting on pretty well yourself for only having worked with UF for a few months! This particular peice is really quite stunning, you should be really proud of yourself!!

wow, those are lovely butterflies. even though i entered one in to the contest, i hope you win ^.^ i'm just in it to get some recognition in the community...since i'm new to fractals...(been doing it for 4 days).

i've seen people doing amazing things with it...i hope i can get that good someday...to the point where i can actually make PICTURES out of one.

i really can't figure out how to make those type of butterflies though...no matter how much i try -_-

very amazing job on this!

I'd say you're coming along very well. Nice gallery.

I've been in UF about a month. I think if we both give ourselves about three years, we might turn out alright...

Let me take a minute and mention that the butterflies would not have been possible without the skills learned with Rykk's masking tutorial:

Masking and Texturing by Rick Spix

Keep poking around...you'll do fine....

Ha ha...perfect?...that's pretty subjective. But thank you very much.

Hours searching for the right formula (butterfly from kec.ufm), 10 masked layers and three hairs left on my head later...there you go.

(love your gallery)

Oh my, this is unbelievable....Growing up, I was crazy about the movies, specially American ones, and JUST the other day I was thinking, you never hear anyone say 'gee' or 'shucks' these days. HAH, now you've said both words in one go, you must be telepathic :!: :!: :wow: :giggle:
The 'aww..shucks' bit took me back to the old flms, and really made me smile.

Anyway, after that bit of silliness, you're very welcome :D :glomp: Thelma.

There's a butterfly formula?! *facepalm*

I really like the background on this. It seems as if there are hills. The butterfly colors are awesome too. All in all, it fits together like a jigsaw puzzle - that is, well.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for the kind comments. And as an Apo artist you know that it takes just that...patience in developing a piece. I worked with Apo for about a year, and with flames many times you see some small thing in a flame that sparks something inside of you and you say, "Aha...this is the direction this needs to go." Sometimes that will happen quick, sometimes it takes weeks...

Your very welcome. Yes, I think the most important asset for a fractal artist is to be patient. I definitely agree. :-)

Thank you!!! You know, I really don't like the idea of saying something like, "This took 14, 000 hours to make and has 2,413 layers using 87 ufm's" and the only reason I mention the layers of this image is because someone sent me a note saying, "nice postwork, bringing in those butterflies". So I wanted to point out that, no, the butterflys were done in UF (I have the params to prove it) and that if I can do it, anyone can. Nothing special, that's just what it took...

Haha yeah I know what you mean sorta. Except I don't know much of the termology...like I don't know what is UF or whatnot. But I have a pretty good idea at how hard it probably was to make it? :)
