Hey guys! I'm back and I have news!
Remember the RP game I told you about a little while ago? Well I tried playing with someone remotely tonight and it didn't work. The reason is because I've been using the Steam API for multiplayer but it doesn't work with remote connections if the game has been all packaged up, as it should be. What this means is, if we want to play it with others, we'll have to put it up on the Steam marketplace!
The good news is it's really easy and it will make distributing the game an absolute breeze too. The bad news is that it requires a $100 fee (about £78) to put up the page. It's not a huge amount, but it's enough to put a dent in my poor student bank account. So here's what I'm thinking.
I've made a pool on PayPal. If anyone wants to donate a little bit of money to help make this happen, I'd be extremely grateful. This isn't a KickStarter so I don't have donation specific tiers in mind with set rewards, but I am willing to give out some keys for access to the earliest builds of the game to the highest donators, as well as giving you some input into what should go into the game. Could be small things like a certain character option, or it could be a full-blown mechanic. Not sure yet - we'll see how it goes.- Just to clarify, the game is intended to be free-to-play once it has been developed to a reasonable degree. Until then, any public versions will have a very small price attached to them. Again, the precise price has not yet been decided, but shouldn't be any more than about £5/$7.
The pool is not anonymous and the donation amounts are public. this will remain until the store page is online. The reason for this is because I've never put a game on Steam before and if anything goes wrong with the process and the page cannot go online, I want to know for sure exactly how to refund any and all of your generous donations. The last thing I want is to steal from any of you, so this is just to make sure none of your money goes to waste.
You can donate to the pool here: www.paypal.com/pools/c/8b7JvKN…
As I've said, anything you can give is appreciated. I'd love to see this happen and I'd love to make you all happy with a sandbox experience you can enjoy.
Thanks all! Speak to you again soon. ^_^
