Tibian Reproduction and Birth

   Sanctum's Notes, 5.14.1742, Earth Calendar, 14:35, ENTRY 2

The world of Tibun is infinitely large and fascinating! I have found myself exploring its many islands in order to do my research, and in my travels I have come across many interesting characters. It is difficult to say who is the most interesting- why, just the other day, I had an encounter with a Psychopomp by the name of Colette! She seemed to recognize me somehow, but-

[Sanctum's notes turn into something of a drawl here, detailing what might be described as a date with this 'Colette' character.]

-Nonetheless, she and I parted ways as nothing more than friends.

However, our hanging out together introduced me to another peculiar character. I believe we were on the island known as Shinevare when a strange fox-woman claiming to be a Goddess of sorts began yelling at us in an attempt to get us to reproduce with one another. When I pointed out my species, she seemed to give up, only for her to return a few days afterwards - earlier today, actually - demanding I give her the secrets of daemonic reproduction. Now, I will be the first to admit that an Incubus or a Succubus would be better suited to describing that process than I am, but-

[Sanctum proceeds to get a little too detailed in explaining exactly how Tibian demons reproduce.]

-Needless to say, my explanation made her happy, and when I informed her that I did not know much about how Tibian mortals reproduce, she all but dragged me to her home to fill me in.

(I later learned her name was Rajan. A strange name, though it is not like 'Sanctum' is much of a normal name, either.)

Rajan began by informing me that Tibians, being a rather malleable species, were capable of, in her words, 'breeding' with outsiders. She explained that, should a Tibian engage in another species' reproductive patterns, if they allow themselves to release or absorb the required energy, they are entirely capable of using those methods to create a child. Rajan used the example of an Earthling, which-

[At this point, Sanctum describes human reproduction. In great, overly descriptive detail.]

-She then explained that instead of genetic material, a male Tibian could donate their energy as a substitute, and a female Tibian could absorb the energy used in procreation into themselves to form the child.

Rajan then realized this would not make much sense without knowing how Tibian reproduction works, so she went into that next.

Tibians are different than most beings in that they do not necessarily need physical contact to reproduce. It certainly helps things along, but it is strictly unnecessary. There also does not necessarily need to be only two people- it is not unheard of for three or more beings to contribute to the process. It also does not need to be a male and a female like some other species, as these are often purely aesthetic for Tibians. In fact, because energies are so tightly woven into the planet itself, it is entirely possible for a Tibian to reproduce with things like trees, the ocean, or a volcano.

(Although, who would want to reproduce with a volcano is beyond me.)

The Tibians involved will gather up part of their energy and release it into the same area. It cannot simply be channeling their abilities, however- it must be part of their life energy. Pulling this energy requires intricate skill which, often times, only adults have, although it is not unheard of for children to possess this kind of control. In fact-

[Sanctum then goes into a story that Rajan told him. Apparently, she once asked two small children to breed as a joke, and it resulted in a child they could not take care of. She allegedly vowed to never suggest breeding as a joke again, and took care of the child herself.]

-She then shook off the memory and continued.

The contributors will then combine their energies into a sort of 'sphere' to ensure that they have combined with one another to form one being. Only once they are certain, they will work together to shape the mass of energy into a figure of sorts. Once it has shape, they will bury it underground. It seems strange, yes- but Tibun itself flows with energy and so burying the child allows the planet to help it grow. Excess energy in the world itself is transferred into the child, allowing it to become properly sized, and any excess energy from the sculpting process is released back into the world.

(Rajan noted that this apparently helps keep things in balance, but did not delve deeper.)

After about a month's time, the contributors will dig up the child and begin to raise it. Tibian children generally gain their powers from one or more of their parents, so if you have one parent who uses terra and another who uses flora you might end up with a child who can use both of those things. However, in the case of children born in the Dark or Light sector of Darlit, their primary power (darkness or light) is determined by where they were buried, as the energies on the Darlit continent are so unstable and out of balance that it will pour its energies into the children, making them either a Dark body or a Light body.

Rajan also noted that in some rare cases, two Light bodies planting a child in the Dark sector (or vise versa) or a Dark and a Light body making a child in the Neutral sector may result in a Gray body - that is, someone whose body is both light and darkness.

She also told me that, due to the instability of their makeup, Dark, Light and Gray bodies will gain a secondary (or in the case of Gray bodies, tertiary) power based on where they grow up. The natural energies that flow in that area will infuse themselves into the child, usually making themselves apparent at about three years of age, and their eye color will change from white (Dark bodies), black (Light bodies) or gray (Gray bodies) to the color of the secondary element they now possess. There is also the possibility that they will not gain another ability and their eyes will remain the same, as well as the possibility for them to gain a third (or fourth for the gray) ability if they grow up in an area with equal influence from two elements, but these places are far and few.

Rajan then noted that there are some perils to child creation. If one being tries to do it alone, the child will be too unstable to grow properly and simply fade into the planet to become energy. If the energies used to create the child are out of balance, it will explode violently and often damage those involved. If it is left underground for longer than two months, the child will instead grow into a part of nature, such as a tree or another plant. Then there is the fact that Tibians are essentially using part of their life force to make the child - during the month-long development phase, they will be at their weakest because it will take that long for that part of themselves to restore.

Rajan was certainly interesting company, and I hope that I shall one day see her again. Perhaps she shall have a child of her own at that point in time?

SO GUESS WHO COULDN'T SLEEP LAST NIGHT

But yeah was there really anyone else who would have described breeding to him

...I promise never to speak of Starlon reproduction.  EVER.
