Director Zach Cregger has made a very concerning and questionable horror/mystery film with eh characters, an eh story and eh effects when needed.
The set-up is that 17 kids from Maybrook Elementary School in Maybrook, Pennsylvania, specifically from Mrs. Justine Gandy’s class, woke up at 2:17 am one night, got out of bed, walked downstairs, opened the front door and walked into the night, never coming back. And the film is told non-linearly from the perspective of six characters trying to work their problems out among the investigation of the missing school kids: Justine Gandy (Julia Garner) the school teacher who’s being blamed by the parents for taking the kids, Archer Graff (Josh Brolin), one of the parents of the missing kids who’s trying to find his son Matthew, Paul Morgan (Alden Ehrenreich) a police officer who’s a friend of Justine, James (Austin Abrams) a homeless drug addict and
