Thankyou! I think it was the ebony pencil - that's a pretty cool tool. I wish they put that lead in mechanical pencils.

oooh i love this one...you have so many great portraits.....i like that you don't always go for the norm...it keeps it interesting...

Thank you. I kind of feel under pressure to do some alterations since I am just 'copying from photos'.

Wow... your work is exquisite

Thankyou very much. I didn't like this one at all when I first posted it, but I'm quite proud of it now. Funny that - usually goes the other way round - you start seeing the faults and then the faults are all you can see.

Oh, I know the feeling. But that is unusual for it to be the other way around! Still, you *should* be proud of this piece, it is lovely.

awesome shading and the eye looks amazing.

Thanks - it was down to that ebony pencil. I've switched back to mech ones for my recent stuff though - I like the precise feel.

You haven't tried them? You must do so - they are great fun, and the nice thing is, even the cheapest ones are really not that far off the expensive ones in quality. One of my favorites is the pentel techniclick at about $2.

That looks great! I need to try pencil on bristal board sometime...

It takes some getting used to (for me) - I find it difficult to get smoothness on shading, because it shows every stroke, but it's great for detail for the same reason.

I never thought about it in terms of strokes showing up. Bt it seems that people who use it tend to get great results :)

hi! you are sure talented with the pencil and i love the way the pieces are cropped
I am new too! welcome to DA

Thankyou. The cropping came about by accident - for the first one, I was looking at the stock thinking "I have to draw this", then I clicked on zoom and the image was too big for my browser. I thought Hmmmm I quite like just the bit I can see ...
