Check it out guys! The Out West Art Show put together a video for me for the upcoming show in March. I think it turned out rather fantastic. :) Have a look-see! In other news, I'm just plugging away at making more art. I'm currently working on a large Friesian scratchboard as well as a commissioned horse oil painting. You can check out my Facebook art page to see all the work-in-progress photos if you're interested. (Link below.) Thanks guys! ~Shalese Check out my website: and Facebook Page:!

Haha, so yes, I've decided to join Instagram to try it out and see what happens. ;) If you guys want to follow me there as well, I would definitely love it! I'll be posting work-in-progress images as well as some other arty stuff. If you feel so inclined, you can follow me ShaleseSands ( :) In other news, I'm working on a couple of commissions (I've been posting WIPs on my Facebook page of those) and have continued my big 16" X 20" scratchboard of a Friesian running on the beach. That one's going to take such a looong time, but it will be well worth it (hopefully!). I'm also working on preparing for the annual art festival in town here, whic

Yes, you read that right! In September of 2016, I will be going on an African Safari with a few artist friends! We will be going to Tanzania and exploring the country, seeing and photographing as much wildlife as we possibly can. I've been dreaming of doing something like this for a loooooooong time, so it's really hard to believe that it's not only possible, but going to actually happen! You guys can just about guess how much inspiration I'll come back with from this trip. The good thing is, I have a little over a year to prepare for it, but I'm sure it's going fly by. In other news, I've been busy with my Federal Duck Stamp entry and worki

Thanks for letting us feature this precious bird of prey art into our group ArsRapax | DeviantArt . You should also join us if you like birds of prey and birds of prey art

wish you have done more on this thematic with this style. I think its one of your best work

Im also interested in this below. Pls submit it to our group. What exactly is scratchboard?

Little Hunter - Scratchboard

Thanks very much! I haven't done a lot of birds of prey in general, but hopefully more someday.

Both of these pieces are actually scratchboard, which is a board covered with a thin layer of white clay. Then there's a thin layer of black ink over that. I scratch off that black ink with an xacto knife to show the white underneath. For colored scratchboards like the Golden Eagle, I paint very thin washes of colored ink over the piece when it's done being scratched out. :aww:

the black and white one looks really photorealistic. I suppose that's the point of the scratchboard tecnique and all of this hassle😋

Ive checked you other bird art (not scratchboard) and I must say those seem taken from a bird guide. Very accurate and illustrative. I can only drool to see how a more colourful bird of prey would look like in that style

PS: I havent received any notification for the black and white one. Sure you have submitted? Im out of submissions most of the times (as a group founder Im really hindered by this da stupid limit of 10 per day)

Haha, yes, that's my goal to make things very realistic, and scratchboard is really good for that. :)

Oh, I haven't submitted it yet. Can't seem to figure out how to do it on my phone, so I'll have to do it when I'm on my computer next.
