Up Close and Personal 3 by shadowfire-x Up Close and Personal 3 by shadowfire-x
We've been getting a LOT of snow here, and the birds are desperate for food. I've been putting out a lot of seed and suet, and kept the heated birdbath filled, so the backyard has become a sort of bird mecca. Decided to set up shop (and freeze my ass off) near the feeders for a photo shoot. I was on a roll when the batteries went dead, and I had to come back inside.

Brought into Photoshop, applied Auto Levels only.

Female Northern Flicker, growing suspicious of the sounds of my zoom.

Ah, thank you kindly! It'll be nice to have that old thing dusted off, and I'm thrilled that someone still likes it!

She was definitely keeping an eye on me. I was a little miffed because my camera battery died just before she flew up and hovered in front of the suet feeder, flashing the gold undersides of her wings and tail.

I had a few of these birds show up in my yard a couple days ago!
There's such a thin as heated bird baths?

Absolutely! I keep one filled up in the backyard. It's heated bird-bath top, essentially a two-part plastic dish that snaps together with a heating unit inside. It can be plugged in with an extension cord, and keeps the water cozy for the birds!

oo I'll have to look into one of those. It doesn't get too cold here, but when it does it's pretty chilly.

We've been getting wind chills to -20 F here, and the water actually stays lukewarm, so you hopefully shouldn't have a problem =)
