How Are You Deer? by shadowfire-x How Are You Deer? by shadowfire-x
Some of the locals out at the office are pretty personable. This is one of this year's white-tailed deer fawns. The spots are gone because it's finished growing in its winter coat. Frankly, I prefer the herd with the winter coat. The summer coat has a gorgeous red/orange sheen to it, and looks really smooth, but during the summer the does have spent/are spending all of their energy on gestation and nursing, so they get to looking almost a little sickly in July and August. After that, though, they start bulking up, and put on their thicker, grayish winter coat, and they look as healthy as they actually are.

Photo taken at Thousand Hills State Park - from a whopping 20 feet away.
