Carrion my wayward son
There'll be corpse when you are done
Lay your balding head to rest
Don't you fly no more

Juvenile turkey vulture at Thousand Hills State Park in Adair County, Missouri, USA. All of the young seem to be flying, and it won't be too long before the vultures all head south for the winter. I'll be eager to see them return next spring!

I've had that song stuck in my head all week. I had just gotten it out.

Damn you.

Honestly, it just happened to be the first thing that popped into my head when I put my cursor in the title bar. I'm feeling kind of triumphant today. I managed to get myself outside and take some pictures, and I finally uploaded the last part of Post-Modern Prometheus, now I'm just awaiting the mob with pitchforks and torches.

I miss taking pictures. :( Somebody stole my camera.

It's great that you got out to enjoy the day, though. It's been so nice out lately here. And, gratz on finishing your latest piece of writing!

Ah, thank you. To be honest, though, it's actually two years old, but, the only place I had ever posted it was tf2chan. I was feeling nostalgic and dug it up a month ago, and even though I knew exactly what was going to happen (I mean, come on, I'm the one who wrote the thing) I wound up bawling my eyes out. So, I decided, maybe it was decent enough to post on here ='D I have more recently written a little drabble about one of my characters dropping acid that maybe I should post >_>

And, that really sucks about your camera D= I would die if someone took my Rebel. I think the trick is in keeping it inconspicuous. I got a camera case from Amazon that looks just like a regular backpack, only the Amazon logo on it - so, no 'Nikon', or 'Canon', or 'Kodak', or anything else that would scream, "There's thousands of dollars worth of stuff in here!" It's cushioned, modular, distributes the weight of my gear evenly, and nobody's ever given it a second glance.

Here's the backpack - for $30 it is a STEAL, given the quality.…
Here's the camera I got. I got it with the 18-135mm kit lens, which is a pretty good catch-all. It's been discontinued so they dropped the price considerably. Great camera - good quality, easy to use, but all of the features you'd want.…
When I want to shoot wildlife from a distance I use a Tamron 70-300mm…
When I want to shoot wildlife cross-continent (just kidding, but it is what I shot this vulture with) and have my left arm hurting in minutes, I use a Sigma 150-500mm…
And, when it comes to macro/super close-ups... I cheat. Macro lenses are too expensive. An absolutely amazing macro photographer here on DA, when I asked him what kind of macro lens he uses, said "Those are too expensive, I use these":……
I saved $700 by not buying a dedicated macro lens, and the effect is essentially the same. And, if you get a DSLR, you will want a UV filter for ALL of your lenses. I cannot recommend the Sigma DG UV filters highly enough. They come in all different sizes, so you will almost certainly find ones that will fit your lenses. They're solidly built. When I first ordered one and took it out of the box, I thought I had been ripped off - It was just a metal ring with no filter in it! I turned it over in my hand a few times, and the light finally hit it just right, and caused a little reflection. The filter is so perfectly clear that it is virtually invisible, which is exactly what you want.

Anyway, those are just my personal recommendations if you get a replacement camera, and you want to get into DSLRs. I'd just about be willing to kill a man for this wide-angle lens for landscape shots… , but, since I've started making payments on the new car, I just kind of look at my bank account and cry now and again.

Thanks a bunch! I'll definitely look into it, after I upgrade my computer like I planned on. My camera was nothing special- about 200$, and a Samsung. I'm going back to Canon after this. The camera was in my person, and I forgot it was in there. Someone at work must've gotten into it. I'm glad my 3DS wasn't in there! I'd have been even more pissed!
