Black Rat Snake by shadowfire-x Black Rat Snake by shadowfire-x
A black rat snake (Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta) I caught a couple days ago. He was rather feisty. He puffed right out, exposing the red skin patterns between his scales.

He's actually missing a chunk out of one of his head scales. He had a hunk of scar tissue there =/

He was about four and a half feet. I grabbed him behind the head when I caught him, so, he wrapped around my wrist and gave me a hug.

That's a big one, too. Did you know of the recent taxonomy change concerning Elaphe?
