Ultra Fractal 5.04
I am a biologist by trade, and occasionally I set out to see how closely I can represent certain flowers in fractal form. I worked very hard on this piece, which has taken me numerous hours, partly because it took up so much memory that my laptop didn't save properly and I had to do part of it all over again. I guess that was serendipity, because I figured out how to do some masking better than I had originally.
This is meant to model the woodland wild flower Red Trillium erectum. I hope you enjoy my rendition as much as I enjoyed the challenge. This is what to actual flower looks like - [link]
ETA: I had the wrong species, and that has been corrected.
I would like to thank anyone who faves my work ahead of time. Your comments and favorites are very important to me, and I cherish them all
. I promise to try to respond to comments, but I can no longer keep up with individual thanks.

Cyd, this is amazing!! I think you nailed it - the coloring, the shape, the butterflies, and the wonderful background! And it's perfect for the holiday season. Absolutely beautiful work!
And I too was a biologist (med researcher) for most of my life. And, I understand you wanting to create fractal flowers closely resembling the real thing. I worked on a magnolia in UF for awhile and this is the closest I've every gotten:
