Description
Was incredibly lucky to see the northern lights in various intensities on almost every night of our 9 day iceland trip! We were exhausted by the end of that holiday from having such action packed days, followed by staying up until God-knows what am watching the night sky, but with veiws like this, we certainly weren't going to bed!
This was the most intense we saw the lights, and I must say I don't have that many pictures because, for the first time in my life, I was so awestruck by what I was seeing I completely forgot my camera, and instead just watched the incredible sight. My camera was set up and when the high intensity burst started (it only lasted a few minutes) I pressed the camera trigger and left the long exposure to do its thing based on settings from previous nights, well I had NOT counted on how bright this thing got and I took my first ever over-exposed night shot XD. I managed to snap out of my daze just in time to realise my mistake, adjust the settings and get this shot before the high intensity burst ended
There really are no words to describe high intensity northern lights. Ribbons of green and purple light twisting and flaring across the night sky, it really does look like green flames licking up into the night, just incredible. It is much more common to see green smudges or faint ribbons (which we saw on other nights), but this was something else. Am so happy to have seen it ^-^
