"That was close. Way TOO close to my comfort level.” Maylara thought. What smelled like burning? Oh. Of course was herself. She felt like she was put on fire, roasted crispy, and on top of that, a bolt had hit her, and as the skin under her was burning as well.
“Should have stayed on bed today.” She thought. “You know what? I should keep home, and be a shepherd in Nohalion mountains, instead.” She mentally added. Her ears where ringing. Her head was ringing. By the Abyss, was like her whole body was protesting at her right now. “Way too outclassed here."
When she saw the spell of the High Sorceress in front of her, she knew she didn’t had time to dodge. As well from her training, she knew she couldn’t “catch” it using her spellthief ability, for would be too much for her. She could have either deflect it, or absorb it. She had never absorbed a spell before, as she didn’t wanted to serve as a target practice to Shi’Nill, but in that fraction of second, she didn’t had time to deflect it.
She should have deflected it, May thought.
For a moment, she thought she died. Heck, maybe she really died?
Nah, being dead shouldn’t be so painful. She looked at her own hands, glowing… but slowly, the flames went down.
“I’m way too outclassed here” May thought, as she heard, behind the ruins where she was cowering, that the duel between Shi’Nill and Paen’Dhirra still ragged in all their fury.
“I’m so dead” a terrified voice said inside her head, but in the same time, other, confident voice cheered for her being able to do such a feat.
“Well… I can always claim when they ask, that I obviously making it look like I was hit and defeated, to make the High Sorceress get lulled into a false sense of confidence… that she anticitaped the spell and dodged it… and heck, even catch it in the process!”
Yeah. A much better story to tell. Better that than to say she almost was fried… of course, she first have to survive this fight, to ever tell that story –any story, in any case- to somebody.
What she would like to do, was to lay down, and stay there behind the broken column… but she put herself together and stood up. There was work to do… and staying behind some ruins didn’t really assured her survival –that the High Sorceress went down meant… well… not survival really, but at least with better chances, she thought.
“At least, I still have the surprise element… I think. I mean, I should be fried by all logical accounts” May told herself.
Not so crispy it seams. She is cheating! D:< She used her spellthieving habilities to not be crispy! Bad Maylara! D:<
