No Words For This
New bloodstains splatter the sky
One after the other, each to match one
Wicked scar you carved into me
Open wounds sliced into me with your
Red-hot tongue, or was it white-hot
Dark colors are too cliché for your brand of evil
Simmering in the summer sun, I hope this
Falling dusk can erase my bloodstains too
One after the other, each to match one
Ripe word from your lips, spilling
The anger in your eyes into me and my
Heart ignored my pleas to stop beating
Instead tried to pump yesterday away but
Sunset couldn't come fast enough

she says its a hand, strong and confident
that it's relentless and ruthless
and the fingers reach to the back of her neck
and her veins are jumping
because the thumb
the thumb is in the hollow of her throat
and it's pushing
like the hollow just isn't
deep enough yet
and meanwhile her
breaths are getting shallower and she doesn't know what to
do because theres nothing she can do and
it seems like maybe she should just try
not breathing because then maybe her windpipe
wouldn't hurt so fucking badly

The Smell of Endings
Light. A strong current tugging her away from Jackson. A single chance.
Squinting against the blinding glow of the gate she glances back. The book's disintegrating spine snapped upon falling. Fighting against the current of energy, she takes one step and then tumbles towards the book. The triumph she feels as her hand clutched one half soon dissipates, though, as the gate tears her away from Tokyo and the rest of the ancient tome.
She is shocked by the sudden absence of all light when the pressure disappears. It is replaced by pain in her chest as she struggles to breathe the thin air. Gone are the fires of Tokyo. In this blackness that once was a city the apocalyptic flames seem to have already been extinguished. The smell is familiar though. The smell from her nightmares, the smell of--
"So you have the book." A voice. Gravelly and threatening, it surrounds her and creeps between her thoughts.
"Well, some of it at least. Yes, good luck with that. I'm sure you'll discern much from it.

Night Blanket
How long will it be before
The bright candle burns no more
Shadows move as the sun sets
And everyone soon forgets
Water spilled evaporates
One man loves, another hates
But day's end is always met
And in the dark they forget
In my unlit room I shake
Remembering 'til I ache
For peace I can't give or get
Dark brings things I can't forget

When Did You Go to Sleep?
When did you go to sleep?
I didn't notice your words drifting into whispers too low for me to hear
or your blue irises disappearing beneath your lids.
I didn't notice your slowing breathing
or your eyes twitching from object to object in a world invisible to me.
All I could hear was our pulses beating out a rhythm against each other.
All I could see was your fingers and mine, intertwined so I couldn't tell the difference.

Where is the Beauty of America
Where is the beauty of America?
Can I find it marching in line with cargo-clad men
holding a machine gun and ignoring a little Iraqi boy's yells, stone-faced
as a nearby girl wonders why her big brother is afraid of these men
Where is the beauty of America?
Should I search in the dumpster behind the 18th Amendment restaurant
while a homeless man beside me celebrates finding a discarded sandwich
and begins walking toward capitol hill in search of shelter
Where is the beauty of America?
Does it linger behind the stinging accusations
slipping from between a politician's mouth
as he claims that his opponent has been the one playing dirty
Where is the beauty of America?
Perhaps in can be found within the disgusted glances on the street
directed not at the short woman's intricate hairdo, or the tall one's jingling bracelets
but at their hands, swinging between them, tightly clasped
Where is America the beautiful?
It is not the nation awaiting me outside my door, nor is it the one portrayed u

That Perfect Stranger
the perfect stranger looks in the mirror
smiling at me
it seems that i am just like her
her exactly
in fact i'm not
when She waves, i wave back.
but as She thinks i think not. i know not.
her feelings are hers alone. mine are inconsequential, nonexistent.
her mind busily churns, while mine lies empty and dead
as She practices flashing her white teeth
my eyes grimace
She turns away, unsatisfied by my performance
the perfect stranger looks out from the mirror
smiling at me
it seems that I am just like her
her exactly
in fact I'm not
when I wave, she waves back.
but as I think she thinks not. she knows not.
my feelings are mine alone. hers are inconsequential, nonexistent.
her mind lies blissfully empty, while mine churns in chaos
as I practice flashing my white teeth
my eyes grimace
she turns away, unsatisfied by my performance

look at me
what do you see
how do you know
what I've chosen not to show
do you know what makes me cry
do you know when I will die
do you know who I miss the most
can you see my haunting ghost
do you know how I break the dam
do you know how strong I am
do you know the song I sing
can you see my hidden wings
do you know the true essence of me
do you know the girl I long to be
do you know what lies beneath my shell
how can you know what I don't tell

alone in the small empty room I sit
alone I weep, for feathers on the ground
so many everywhere, I barely fit
among them my wings hardly can be found
this unplanned molting is cause for concern
as I lose flight one feather at a time
it is not something I can just relearn
this special skill that once was purely mine
I'm shaking, greiving my most stunning wings
protectors once, they now are limp and weak
both whithered shadows of once stronger things
they represent a future rather bleak
as I am them, my wings are truly me
without them surely I am nobody

Love Is Not Weak
A heart and its hopes lie on the concrete.
tears flow down the gutter. Love is not weak,
but neither were you; you walk by coldly.
stomp on her, though she loved you so boldly
Her love and your heart, they died together,
withered away when you broke the tether.
so her tears flow into the gutter alone.
she mourns not for you, but your heartless clone.

What Could Have Been
Pink hair. It was the first thing he noticed about her.
his eyes darted to it as they began to flirt
Every word was a honey dipped treat
slipping from between the lips he wished he could eat
Rivers of blood coursed through his ears
the roaring pulse was all he could hear
Fingers touched and zap
       could she feel that?
Enjoying the pleasant sensation of  tingling
he wished he wasn't supposed to be mingling
Clueless and stiff nobility
were all lacking in mental ability
Though he was supposed to be one of them
he'd prefer to be like this mysterious femme
Smooth chin. It was the first thing she noticed about him.

Ink and Smoke
She loved the scent
of ink and smoke -
and the way strangers
caressed her name
like the verdant rushes
rolling off the river bank,
or a low slung
black dress
sprawled dangerously
across the floor.
Mornings found her
curled up
where the light
shivered blue
and the cat's tale
lingered like a secret,
waking her from dreams
brighter than early frost.
But it was night
that bought and sold her,
made her heart a trinket,
dressing her in silk
as new as nuptials -
that flagrant shade of flush
and the rough and tumble
of her hips
serenading the world

my mouth is filling with sand
my brother used to tell me to hold my breath until i could hear the ocean in my head. and i did, it was a soft roar of sky fighting sea. eventually when my eyes rolled back like waves, he would make me breathe so i didn't drown.
he was always there to tell me to breathe out but now he is gone and i am forgetting how to.
we were very young when our father died (fell from a cliff photographing the moon) and our mother started dating the milkman. he was gangly man with white hair but otherwise very handsome. we didn't mind him at all. he made our mother smile and brought warm milk every night. but we missed our father and his stories about stars and planets.
one night we tried in vain to bring our father back to life in this man, he lay on our bed and we begged a story. but rather than talk about the grandeur of the milkyway he told us the percentages (down to 7 figures) of the essential vitamins in milk. we yawned and slept as he watched on proudly, thinking he had inspired delighting dr

"Do you fear death?"
The question loomed in the air before my body, as if a sword looming over someone almost conquered by their enemy. But I looked down at my hands and then back up, only to say, "Have you ever felt the pain of watching two lovers embrace at the end of a movie? It's supposed to be a happy ending. But your heart tells your lungs to stop breathing for just a minute…because it will never ever be yours."
"Do you fear death?"
A question repeated deserves an answer. But instead, my trembling hands sat clenched on my lap, the blue ink like veins showing through the frail covering that might rip apart any second. "Do you know what it's like to wake up in the middle of the night to hear a song, just to remind yourself, you're going to be all right? Over and over again…until it doesn't work anymore."
"Do you fear death?"
The invisible chain linked through my fingers, and I closed my tired eyes, this time, hearing the impatience in th

read this without breathing
Don't call me beautiful.
This isn't some over the counter form of self-deprecation. It's truth in a full-informed prescription. Maybe you've figured this out by now and I'm wasting my words telling you, but darling, I'm an acidic mess and I promise I'll burn holes through your best intentions. Read this as the label marked "warning." Or maybe I'm a battlefield and honestly, blow by blow, you're killing me. But usually, I'm simply a one-way road that dead-ends at your doorstep and I'm crashing into you.
I swear we do the worst things to each other in the worst and most nonsensical ways.
Don't pretend I'm clever.
I'm just recycled words from recycled thoughts from recycled people. Not one piece of me is remotely original. The sad truth is I'm more horrible than I seem. I'm a wildly mismatched collection of sad songs on scratched cds, half-read books and unraveling cardigans all accumulating in a giant mess meant to impress the next person and then the next. Until I realize that I just sp

Hi everybody. I like to write poetry and occasionally a short story or a "blurb" as I call them. Some pieces of mine that I really like are Playtime, Torture, and Chapter 1. (I know Chapter 1 isn't a very original name, but I am temporarily unable to think of a title.) I also love to draw, but I rarely come up with something that I consider good enough to share. Please give me any advice or suggestions you have. I am open to criticism because I want to improve my work. My new group, ShareYourWriting, is for people who want to share their writing or see other deviants' writing. Please take a look at it if you're interested!
I wrote this but don't feel especially like submitting it as anything, so I thought I'll just stick it here :)

I rest my foot on the surface of the water, feeling the surface tension below the sole of my shoe. For a moment, it's easy to believe that I could shift my weight and remain above sea level, balancing on the glassy reflection of the sky. That I could walk to the other side and be with her again, as easy as placing one foot in front of the other. Instead I retract my sneaker and tuck that feeling of possibility away in a corner of my mind, storing it for the next time I need to believe in the impossible.

Well a girl can dream, can't she? I figure this is the only way I even have a chance of getting some points, so I might as well have it.
