Reincarnation Story 2 Part 47
Foruma Zenjutsuma paced outside of the room restlessly, fearing the worst for his wife. It had been two days... There was no way to hope the birth was going smoothly. He jerked to a stop as a nurse stepped out of the room, a knot of panic in his stomach. When her face turned to him, she smiled softly and said, "She's asking for you. Congratulations. You have a healthy son." Elation filled him from head to toe and he brushed past her into the room.
Before him, lying in a four-poster bed with a bundle in her arms was his wife. Her black hair was drenched in sweat, her face pale but for a slight pink tinge in each cheek. She smiled when
As Zephyr slept, nightmares haunted her dreams. Dreams of her seeing her family members in the distance, but no matter how far she ran, never getting to them. Dreams of Hiruma disappearing. She tossed and turned restlessly all night.
When she awoke, faint light illuminated the room. She found her cheeks wet with tears from her nightmares. Pushing away her blankets, Zephyr stretched, stood up, and headed for the door. She still felt sleepy, but at least her strength was back. As she entered the living room, she asked timidly, "Hello? Anyone up?"
"Zeph! You're awake." Hiruma had only recently been able to repossess Truth's human form a
Zephyr clung to Sebastian, trying to hold her balance after the sudden warp. Her head had already been already hurting, now it felt like it was spinning too. Eyes darting from the ground, to the left and right, and then to the sky, she asked, "Wha.... Where are we now...?"
Xavier interrupted her. "Look!" She said, pointing into the distance behind them. Before their eyes was what looked like an ancient Japanese marketplace, filled with warm yellow light and the shouts and laughter that accompanied a festive atmosphere. Glowing lanterns were strung across the road in multiple places, hinting at the sleeplessness of the place; the scent
"Kai!" Zephyr exclaimed. "You're finally awake! Are you going to be ok?"
"Considering that I feel like a bloody lump of fur, you mean? Yeah, I'll be okay. I think." He tried to stretch, but ended up mewing in pain. "Like I said, what'd I miss? You guys look like you went through hell and back with only one bottle of water."
Zephyr grimaced. "That's a pretty accurate description, actually... Where should I even start?" Sighing, she looked up at the sky, staring vacantly. "You and John got kidnapped, we found out you were being held hostage and to get you back we had to win the Hoverboard race. Turns out the whole thing was rigged,
When Zephyr opened her eyes, she was looking up at dark clouds, tall buildings blotting out some of the sky. She pushed herself into an upright position, flinching as she realized someone was standing beside her. Rangokuen. The woman's hair and dress ruffled slightly in a light breeze. Zephyr shivered as it blew past her. "What is this?" she asked.
"This is where Hakuzu Kerutsuma's soul is trapped. The first Reincarnate."
"...Where are we then? I was in a attic a minute ago."
"This is a small, separate dimension. The hover board acts as a gateway to this impri
"No, no, no, nooo!!" She snapped out of her daze, and then started chanting rapidly, hoping with all her heart that Rangokuen's magic would work. Energy began to gather around her, and as she finished, Zephyr slammed her hand to the ground. A protective bubble like the one from before formed around her, then expanded outward. As it touched Hiruma, the tendrils around his throat dissolved.
As he fell to the ground, Hiruma took in an enormous breath, coughing and eventually dry heaving. He collapsed to the ground, exhausted. "The others...Zeph, the others."
Zephyr nodded, and began chanting again, focusing on expanding the shielding bu
Xavier looked around at the mirrors confusedly. "Just what is going on here...?" The mirrors were all...foggy. Dark. She felt as if there should be something to see, but there was only a slightly confused feeling of nostalgia. She clasped her hands together and wandered slowly through the turns, hoping everyone was okay...
John walked slowly and cautiously through the maze, taking small steps and holding Kai close to him as he eyed his surrounding carefully. He felt alone, and scared. "S-Sebastian ? Xavier, Zeph? Hhello? Wh-where are y-you?"
Dyce shut his eyes tightly, covering his ears, but the shouts d
Zephyr blinked several times, eyes still adjusting to the sudden changes in light. As her vision cleared, she gasped as she looked into an image of herself. She stumbled backwards, momentarily surprised at the new surroundings. Low cackling echoed out into the maze as she walked forward, sending chills down her spine. "Don't think this will stop me..." She murmured as she made her way through the maze, hoping she was headed in some sort of right direction.
Hiruma looked around desperately, but didn't see anything but his own haggard reflection. He grimaced as he took in his appearance, his expression stressed and his shirt and arm sta
Zephyr slashed out at her next target, claws severing its head from its shoulders before it could attack. As she kicked the headless robot to the ground, a blade bit into her back. She cried out and jumped back, almost collapsing from the unexpected pain. "Freaking bot !" She hissed through gritted teeth. The robot originally behind her flicked its blade, splashing blood on the ground, then charged with surprising speed. Zephyr rolled to the side, then kicked the robots legs from underneath it. She jumped on to it and stabbed it repeatedly until its lights died out.
"ZEPHYR!!!' Hiruma pushed away the cold darkness and rose to th
"He's a better person than you'll ever be. I don't blame him for never telling us he's related to a fag like you." Zephyr replied.
Tekeshi clucked his tongue. "Why don't you tell her, Dyce? Tell her what you did." Out of the shadows, a figure stepped forward.
"How did you know I was here?"
Tekeshi sneered. "You have this annoying tendency to interrupt my fun."
Zephyr took a step back. "Dyce ? What are you doing here?"
"I was hoping to help." His voice was pleading.
"Help? Help!?" Said Tekeshi through gritted teeth. "You expect to help them!? The one who let our parents be killed in front of his very eyes without
When Hiruma woke, everything was dark. He couldn't see an inch in front of his face. "Z-Zephyr?" He croaked. "Xavier? Sebastian?"
The voice was John's.
Zephyr slowly opened her eyes, responding to their voices. "J-John? Where are you?" She asked weakly, struggling to get up.
"I'm right here." John replied. Zephyr turned, hearing his small voice from behind her. Feeling around blindly, she searched for him until her hand brushed against the soft fabric of his shirt. She let out a cry of relief, firmly placing her hands on his shoulders, and then pulling him in close and hugging him tightly. "You okay?" She asked
"Right!" She said, speeding forward. Her goggle screen flashed, then starting streaming data. So far, their team was in 5th, Tekeshi's in 2nd. But most of Tekeshi's points had been from elimination, so most of his racers were a little behind in speed. "We still have a good chance " She muttered, trying to reassure herself. She shook her head, then said into the com, "Xavier, Sebastian, you two still doing alright?"
Xavier flailed her whip, sending it scorching across the racer's face. He screamed, tilting and tumbling from his board. "I don't understand it!" She yelled breathlessly. "We're being attacked on all sides!"
Zephyr immediately sped off as soon as the last bell rang, along with everyone else entering. A couple of them were stranded at the start line, seemingly having technical problems. She shook her head, concentrating on the track and the people around her.
'Remember, the very beginning of the race is important. People will try to strike you out in the chaos if you look like an easy target. Strike out in the beginning, and it's game over.' Hiruma's advice echoed in her head. She thrust her hands down, and the metal on her gloves reformed around each finger, creating deadly long, sharp claws.
Her goggles flashed a warning sign to her le
Zephyr repositioned her goggles on her forehead and exhaled deeply as she read over the sign-up sheet again. It mentioned that any injuries sustained during the race were your fault, and that death was a possible outcome. Then there were seemingly endless paragraphs of fine print about legal rules and laws She groaned and muttered, "Screw this " under her breath as she signed her name at the bottom of the packet. She pushed the paper forward on the table. An attendant took it, scanned, and nodded.
"Very good. Thank you Ms. Silveern. We'll get your anklet trac
"Me too..." Xavier went into the room, pulling the large black metal door open with difficulty. "Um...I'll go first, I guess." After a brief period inside, she came out with a blue and black leather outfit, the collar coming up to her chin like a turtleneck. The sleeves had numerous buckles on them, and the whole set was close fit. "Ah, this is so much better! Now I can finally get somewhere!"
Zepher nodded, liking Xavier's new outfit pretty well. It fit her nicely, she thought. Zephyr decided she should probably find a new outfit too, so she opened the
Xavier watched Zephyr zoom away, biting her nails. She didn't know if she'd be good at this sort of thing... Shaking her head, she jogged over to the Hover board Fitting area. 'I said I'd help him any way I can. I can't back down now.'
Zephyr managed to complete one lap successfully without falling off, although she did stumble at one point, and almost fell off at one of the turns. On her second lap, she noticed Xavier looking over the numerous hover boards lined up against a wall. 'Perhaps you should give her a hand.' Rangokuen's voice echoed in Zephyr's mind. Zephyr slowed, and scowled. 'Why should I? She'll probably just
Dyce scoffed at Hiruma, then he too turned and walked off. Zephyr looked at Hiruma, then Dyce, and back to Hiruma. Would it be a bad idea to try and say anything to him now? Hesitantly, she shook her head. He could use a couple minutes to cool off, then maybe she'd talk to him later. With that, she ran over to her hover board and jumped on. It instantly turned on, lights flashing, and Zephyr sped off down the track.
Hiruma sat down on the grass, pulling some up by the roots.
"You deserve happiness. I truly think you do."
He looked at Xavier as she sat down beside him, lowering her eyes shyly. "Thank you." He said, ruffling her
Zephyr fell back onto a wall, dropping her head to her hand. "What are we going to do...? Of course we have to enter now, but none of us has even ridden a hover board...! How can we win..?" She asked quietly, body shaking.
Hiruma pulled her head to his chest. "It's alright." His eyes were determined. "I have a feeling I can take them on."
Zephyr nodded, but was reluctant. "You're not going in alone. I'm entering too, no matter what you say."
"Zephyr...just what do you think Hover boarding implies? I'm not gonna let you get killed!" Xavier rushed over
After running for a short distance, Zephyr stopped, gasping for breath. She slumped down against a dirty wall, cradling her bloody hand to her chest. Doubt, depression and guilt hung over her, from Xavier's words, to her own reaction.
'You think you helped him, even once!? You just got in the way! Just like you always get in the way! You disgust me!!'
Zephyr sighed, feeling tears burning in her eyes. She brushed them away with her good hand, then pulled her legs up to her chest, and rested her forehead on her knees.
Why couldn't she do anything right?
"Zephyr! Zephyr, are you alright?" Sebastian ran up, resting his hands on hi
Xavier bit her fingernails worriedly. 'I hope he's okay...' Seeing Hiruma in Truth's form was still strange.
Sebastian looked from Zephyr to Truth, worry in his eyes, the turned back to Dyce. "Where did you see them?"
Dyce was silent for a moment, staring out blankly. He flinched, then said, "Huh? Oh, the little dude, right. Tekeshi's got him, and I'm guessing he's probably at his hideout. A less known fact to most of Tekeshi's fans is that he's a member of a fairly large gang. And, his gang has been giving me trouble for quite some time." He said bitterly. "Anyway, I can lead you to where he is. But..." He looked at each member
Zephyr teetered left and right, grabbing the chair next to her for support. It felt as if the room were spinning. "Man...I feel weird...I'm pretty sure that wasn't water." She said, laughing a little.
"Water? I thought it was juice..." He stood up and reeled, a second hiccup escaping his lips. "Juice, juice, juice, juice! Hey--" He paused and turned to Zephyr. "Have you seen my sword? I need my sword...I want a pineapple." His face was flushed and hot. He put a hand to his forehead and brought it back hazily. "Something about this seems fishy..." He suddenly burst
Hiruma glanced around, swearing under his breath. Dark figures with black bandanas around their faces emerged, all carrying dangerous-looking weapons. He turned to the one who'd spoken to them first, obviously the ringleader. "We're looking for someone. Actually, two people. What's it to you?" He kept himself between the stranger and Zephyr.
The boy shrugged. "Doesn't matter to me too much, I just don't like people wandering where they're not supposed to."
Hiruma scoffed. "And who are you, to define where we're supposed to be? I know exactly where I'm supposed to be. Looking for my friends. Which means I need to be here. If you
Zephyr yelped as she felt a rough hand grab her arm. "Eek! Get off me!" She yelled, pulling her arm away. She fought the urge to kick him in the shins as she ran in the opposite direction. People glared and shouted at her as she pushed her way through the crowd, attempting to get into a clearer spot. As soon as she made her way into a clearing, two people on what looked like a flying skateboard zoomed passed her, barely missing her and shouting back curses at her. Zephyr swore, then jumped back into the swarm of people. As she moved back, she ran straight into Xavier, who looked just as frazzled as Zephyr was.
"Everyone is so-so rude!
In his icy prison, Hiruma could hear Zephyr's voice. "No...He's...frozen now...isn't he?" His heart thumped in his chest.
"...I....lost count..." He realized. "....Zephyr? Zeph?"
Truth paused, and his left eye flashed aqua blue. "...He's asking for you." He told Zephyr.
Zephyr looked up at Truth, eyes wide. "H-huh..? Hi--Hiruma? C-can you hear me?"
In his mind, Hiruma made a sobbing noise. "Zephyr! Y-yes, I can hear you!" Truth relayed the words.
"N-no way... I can still speak with you..! Thank goodness!" Zephyr said, sighing with relief. "So now we're not entirely apart. Oh..." She paused. "I never told you how to break
