Would you mind posting your avatar in M-C-Escher-Style so I can put it in our ambigram collection?

I would if I could find the original file, I'll try n hunt it out! I've subbed the newer (static) version instead :)
Thanks for asking

The newer static version is even better. *applause*

I've always been a little unhappy with this piece, because I wish that the bottom two fish were reversed in color (and therefore, all the others above them should also be reversed coloring).

At the bottom of the picture, the dark fish should fade into the background, while the light one should overlap the bottom-sand.
Do you agree?

Also, I'm always of two minds about whether all the pieces shoudl have EXACTLY the same shape, or if it's more fun (and acceptable art) to allow each tile to be slightly unique: a longer fin here, a shorter mouth there, etc.
What do you think?

So that's your tessellation! Very nice!

I've been trying to start one, but cant' decide what theme to go with.

What theme...?
I approach theme-choice from three different directions:

1) I start with a shape that I know will tessellate-- triangle, hexagon, square-- and manipulate it until it looks like the vague outline of something. Wala, there's the theme, unless I notice that the shape could be one of several animals (cat or rhino or dino...).

2) I start by just noticing in daily life, that an animal or object is roughly tessellate-able (Is that even a word?) and go from there. Again, the theme's chosen for me.

3) The hard way is to start with something you WISH would tessellate, and start posing it 'til it works. That's hard work, with no guarantee of success. The best one can do is to choose an object or animal with soft sides, very poseable, and exotic enough that people won't notice if there're a couple of oddnesses in the pose and proportions. So, loose clothing... undefined species of bird, tropical fish, or reptile: these're the best.

Want tips or someone to talk to / brag to about your design? Let's talk, mon! :-D
