Shoah Memorial by serenityamidst Shoah Memorial by serenityamidst
This is the Holocaust memorial in my hometown.
It is made up by 86 triangles that are staged into a twisted pyramid. This pyramid is supposed to remind the viewer of flames. The triangles are grouped into pairs, each pair forming a Star of David.
The monument is a reminder of the events of the Pogromnacht and Holocaust. In the course of these events nearly all members of Goettingens jewish community were murdered and their synagogue was torched.
In 1933 the jewish community in Goettingen had 410 members in 1933 after years of persecution only 150 were left in 1942. Out of these 150 only 3 survived the Shoah.

This Monument was build 35 years after the Pogromnacht and was inaugurated on the 35th anniversary of that terrible night.

For more information and pictures please visit the following link (german):

Due to many (justified) complains the term "Night of Broken Glass" was changed to "Pogromnacht"!

Thanks for all the favs and the DD :)

This topic makes me extremely sensible, but I must say that it's a extraordinary architectural work. Thanks for sharing it and for the explanation. Congrats for the DD :)

"(Reichs)kristallnacht" is nazi jargon. "(Reichs)progromnacht" is politically correct. The term "Kristallnacht" is a supportive term kind of, as it portrays the valdalism that took place as a "cleaning act" of sorts (Kristall = crystal -> "clear as a crystal"), whereas "Progromnacht" does not judge (neither postively nor negatively), so it's the "neutral" thing to say kinda.

Of course you're not.
The entire thing is made up of a bunch of triangles, each pair forming a star of David.
That's the entire point

It is pretty amazing.

Fantastic piece of work. The nightmare of the holocaust was an atrocious blight in history, but you did a great job symbolizing this to commemorate all that were lost.

Good photo, but to the person who wrote the feature-text:
The word "kristallnacht" is a glorifying word for this night and was created by the nazis. The political correct word is "pogromnacht". Just wanted to mention that.
