Link the Brave Bead Sprite by SerenaAzureth Link the Brave Bead Sprite by SerenaAzureth
Just finished up this giant wonderful Link the other night. Man is he huge, but so cool!! The bead sprite itself was made by me, SerenaAzureth, but the amazing pixel art for this giant hunk was made by AbyssWolf, another deviant artist! Seriously AbyssWolf, your pixel art makes me swoon. <3 ^.^

Edit: HOLY COW! A Daily Deviation? WOW!! I was at work almost all of yesterday and woke up this morning to see my page views, comments, and favs off the charts! I was wondering, "What the heck was going on here?" XD Thank you so much to everyone for all the wonderful comments and Favs. I saw quite a few of the same questions throughout the comments so I'll try to answer the main ones for everyone rather then repeat it a million times in answering comments. lol :D :

"What is it made out of?"
-All my bead sprites are made out of Fuseable beads (the ones were you put the little beads on a pegboard, and then put a piece of parchment paper over it and then iron the project with a clothing iron.)

"What fuseable bead brands did you use?"
-I use quite a few different bead brands, in fact any I can get my hands on, lol XD, but Link here is made primarily from Perler, Hama, and PhotoPearls brand beads.

"Where did you get your beads from?"
-I buy my beads from a vender named Callhan13 on ebay [link] . She has sold Perler, Hama, and PhotoPearls to me for years now and I highly recommend her for the best supply and cheapest price for all your beading needs! ^.^ There are certain brands I can't get from her in store and they are: Ikea/Pyssla beads (which I pick up from Ikea), Elmer's Fuze Art Beads (which I pick up from Walmart), and Melty Beads (which I pick up from Walmart).

"What do you put the beads on to make such a project?"
-I have square linkable pegboards that are 29 beads X 29 beads in size and fit together like puzzle pieces so I can have any size pegboard I want to work off of. I usually buy my pegboards from Michael's of Joann Fabrics, but Callahan13 also sells those in her ebay store as well.

"How many pegboards did this project take?"
-Honestly, I don't remember since I did make it almost 2 years ago and have worked on so many projects I don't keep track of how many pegboards each one takes. XD

"How big is he?"
-he's 21in. X 29in, so a pretty big bead sprite, but not the biggest I've ever made.

"I'm confused. Fuseable beads are round and have holes in them, why do yours have square looking beads with no holes in them?"
-That is actually because of the way I iron the project. The 2 hardest parts about making bead sprites is picking the right colors (since even with all the different fusebead companies there is still a limited palette and making the right choice for everything can make you want to pull your hair out), and the ironing. I "Flat-iron" or "Fully-Fuse" my projects so the beads melt square and the holes are no longer visible. It is this melting technique that usually sets my bead sprites apart from others, especially when it comes to bigger bead sprites since it can get really rough to do without the bead sprite bubbling or warping under heat and pressure. I think that is something that is so unique about fuseable beads, they can give you a bunch a different looks from one type of product. :)

"Do you take commissions for all sorts of bead-spriting work?"
-Yes, I do. It is one of those things that if you are seriously interested please leave me a P.M. I have a little bit of a waiting list right now, but I usually get through it pretty quickly, especially during the holidays when I get time off from my job. :)

I really am honored to get this DD for the craftsmanship I have lovingly put into this Hyrule Hunk, but seriously though folks great bead sprites cannot be made without wonderful pixel art. "Link the Brave" was based off of fabulous work done for Abysswolf's and Orkimides' Card Saga Wars game that they have been working on for the last couple years. It is a fighting game where characters from different video games, anime, and manga universes are pitted against one another in combat. The game is still not available yet, but you can check out their progress on their "Card Saga Wars" page [link] . :D

Impressive. Very good job. I work with those kinds of beads a lot and its defiantly hard work to create things out of them. You've done a fantastic job with Link here.

How did you get such a large image of him for the bead work?   I was interested in trying this but I didn't know how to "setup" an image and the beading area so I could make this.  :S  Thank you for the help

I had just thought about doing a zelda perler to put up on the wall. Just the Hyrule shield, The Mater Sword, and the Tri Force. I just dread the amount of time and space it would take...

i love this and I am going to try making Link like this based off that image by Abysswolf. If I can ask a question, how did you melt him? I know you melted him like we do but it is so large and the paper is only about 8 inches wide. Did you just go section by section or try and cover him all in several pieces of paper?
