that akward moment... by SenselessJabberwocky that akward moment... by SenselessJabberwocky
er... just a random thought about differences in descriptions of mythological creatures...

before I've read HP I was sure, that basilisk is a chicken with snake's tail. so when the Golden Trio found out about a basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets, I was truly prepared to see a chicken. and ended up severely disappointed.

the truth is, that myths and interpretations differ. in different sources they tell you, that basilisk is a chicken, or the king of serpents or that cockatrice and a basilisk is the same creature.

Haha I too always thought a basilisk was more alike to a rooster than a snake.. but oh well.. I guess that a chicken haunting the pipelines of Hogwarts wouldn't have been so scary...:lmao:

Вообще Кокатрис и Василиск - это разные создания :3 Кокатрис стал перенимать черты Василиска и иногда даже его имя гораздо позже появления легенды о василиске :3

I think you're thinking of a Cockatrice which turns folks into stone when you see them. They're kind of like chickens (totally learned that from My little pony XD) That is fantastic!

HAHAHA. This is great! But I guess that's the great part about being a fictional writer, you can twist whatever you want to make it your own. n_n Even if they are creatures that already exist. But then again, in the Percy Jackson series they described the Basilisk to be a small and deadly snake that moves at an alarming speed... Oh well. I guess that's why they're mythological creatures, because they're fake and you can mess with their appearance. :p

thanks :) myths and interpretations differ considerably, not only in writer's mind :) I've added a little explanation to the picture, since I felt it necessary, so everyone could know, why I came up with the idea :)

Exactly! All the different interpretations I've seen/read I find really interesting. It'd be boring if they were all the same. n_n Hehe, explanations to clear up the unwanted critics. :P

Isn't that a cockatrice, rather than a basilisk?

well, you see, I thought about it too. before I've read HP I was sure, that basilisk is a chicken with snake's tail. so before drawing this I've checked, whether it's right or wrong. the truth is, as far as I understood, that myths and interpretations differ. in different sources they tell you, that basilisk is a chicken, or the king of serpents or even that cockatrice and a basilisk is the same creature.
