Done the texture for this. Got a clean and a dirty version. Found out that Subaru is Japanese (baka ne) and that I'm an idiot. Anyway hope you like the render of Crockers WRX sti.

*raises hand* When you're going to do reflections in the windows in photoshop... make sure that transparency doesnt spin over onto the CAR >_<
I can't believe no one pointed this out yet. Look at the skyline/horizon of the reflected landscape. You can see part of it on the car where you really shouldnt. My suggestion is grab the eraser and only show the reflection in the windows.
As for the mud, it should be darker at the base, but that goes without saying. The lighter colour makes it look a bit like dirt. Id suggest varying the colour. Try overlaying a soft brown (varied) gradient on the dust layer. That way itll give the dust more depth rather than having it a flat colour.

And, God. Another thing? Be consistant :P No sunset on one car, then a house on the other O_O It looks ... weird. Plus I can see a palm tree on the ROOF of the back car. lol. The reflections are half assed James, I know you could have done better than that. Told you you've been slow lately.
Tisk tisk, I also told you smoking doesnt help you focus on your work properly... *rolls eyes* this is just proof of that :P

The rest is fine thugh. Just be carefull on the reflections and the dirt.

I did the reflection using a HDR which is a 360 degree photograph that you tell max to use as the 'reflection' as if the car pictured is in that environment. This requires a lot of tweaks to get right and only shows up nicely after a long render so I just let it be after the first pass. I do realise it looks stupid and it could do with some photoshopping to fix it but I'm lazy ... what can I say.

As for the dirt (cough sand cough) I know I messed that up. After looking at it in the render I mentally slapped myself. The darker 'wet mud' patch I did is only barely visible and I brushed most of that onto empty space on my texture map.

Oh and...
der....

Yeah thats right...

um...

i forgot...

oh wait no i didnt...

... id suggest you use photoshop for the reflections if its just a one frame render. its alot more professional and faster.

ESPECIALLY since youre getting paid for this >cheesed off because i could kick your ass at that<

der

oh...
uh nup.... forgot again :P

Actually its 16 frames from 16 different directions as well as individual renders for car selection screens. This is why I didn't do the photoshopped (superior) reflections.

And how does that explain why you didnt photoshop it?
It doesnt look any better.

Call me a retard, but saying 16 frames, 16 directions... doesnt exactly explain why its a better choice.

Oh ... sorry
Well the reflections in 3D studios modify themselves depending on the 360 degree picture. This is why there is a building on one window facing one way and a sun set on another. Therefore with 16 different directions I can just let 3D studios decide which reflection to put on each rather then making a new one of a new shade / image for each direction of car.

still doesnt do it any justice yknow?

yup :(
Lucky I can get away with it because its only going to be 30x20 res and slightly bigger in the car selection renders. Also I think after your comments I might try toning down the reflection on the body work and amping it up on the windows only.

That's really nicely done, shame about the odd ding in the texture, most noticable in the bumper side, but your right, in miniture, won't be able to see any of the imperfections :)

Cool. Glad it worked well. Only took like 3 minutes.

Looks nice. I see some stretching and squashing of some of the textures, but on a mobile that wont be obvious. The dirt looks reall authentic of the greece or spanish (when off the tarmac) rallys.

lol
Believe me I know about those textures. I not only rushed the texturing but the unwrapping as well so to get everything lining up nicely I would have to redo a lot of stuff but you are also correct that its ok to do that on a mobile game. Highest res this will be seen in is on the car selection screen at 80x110 roughly.

As for the dirt. I based it loosely on some dirt from the Australian off tarmac rallys. I think I got it pretty close. I will have to check out the Greek and Spanish rallys to see if I'm closer to Australia or to them.
