What is it?

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 9, 2019, 4:25 AM
There is a curious similarity I’ve noticed sometimes, between artwork made by the working class and work that is sanctioned for use by the state that you see in totalitarian dictatorships.

It seems to be an ingrained cultural insistence that artwork must strive to be as close to photographic in its representation as possible, and easily summarized, in order to be considered valuable, legitimate, or “useful” culturally.

Rather than recognizing an artwork for what it truly is - a new contribution to reality, there exists a self-imposed type of “entartete kunst” mindset, where any thought of doing something else has been quietly purged generation after generation, often beginning in the childhood of an artist, by the asking of the seemingly innocent question, “what is it?”.

Ah yeah, Witkin has been something of a favorite of mine. An intriguing photographer. Read some of his bio. Quite a character.

Hey thanks.

Good tip about the larger posts. I'm so used to places that restrict K limits so sizes always had to be smaller.
I'll see about updating with some larger versions.

Hey 3's a charm.
Apparently no way to delete comments from the site.

Nice.

Going to have to start spell checking all the manifestos before posting them.

Okay. Relatively new to this site. So many buttons, so many lines.
If I don't respond don't think I am being rude, just acclimating to the new digs.
