I have two other charts floating around but this is one is a combination of all three. 6DoS stands for 'Six Degrees of Separation' which is my probably-never-being-written-headcanon-fanfiction for the mane 6 and chosen background ponies. I KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF TEXT HERE but if you're confused as to why a pony is linked in a certain way I encourage you to read this or at least ctrl+f the pony's name. ex why Prism is Rainbow's brother and not her dad.

Still working on the pre-Nightmare Moon stuff. Discord may or may not have once been an Alicorn? Betrothed to Celestia? Dabbled in the idea that he used to be Chronos, the King [Prince?] of time but was corrupted by Chaotic magic [same as Sombra/NNM?] and basically became so twisted he became another species for the fun of it. Due to the lack of a time keeper, maybe this is why Celestia and Luna have to control the sun and the moon?
Zecora, while not an alicorn, was friends with Celestia and Luna before everything, particularly Luna. Zebras were shunned even worse back then than they are today, and she empathized with Luna. Despite her sun cutie mark [is that a cutie mark??] she easily became a night creature and almost Luna's sole companion. While Luna refused to allow the sun to rise, Zecora used her own kind of magic to create a forest that would thrive even in darkness. After Luna's transformation to NMM and her banishment, Zecora retired to the forest she had created which would eventual become the Everfree Forest, protecting the ruins of the sister's castle. She appears to Celestia from time to time. Possibly granted Longevity from Celestia or maybe is simple a special kind of magic. She and Luna rekindle after the events of Nightmare Night.

I see no reason why Celestia and the Sparkle parents would not be bros! I'm sure she visits them often, they're all one big family anyway.
I think I missed the part in CW where Celestia called Cadance her niece because I don't remember it being stated, just that we all assumed it. And Blueblood is supposed to be her nephew but very much removed? I'm not sure how they're related to her even though she has no other siblings or children but there it is.

Twilight is still a unicorn because.. honestly I don't know what to do about Princess Twilight. I'm not against her but I still like the idea of her becoming the new mayor of Ponyville, and I'm not sure what her royal duties will even be anyway? So I'll leave that to canon and keep her this way for now [could Princess Twilight be a mayor?]. Flash Sentry is not here because one I haven't seen EqG yet and two I don't ship it anyway so off with ye. She marries Pinkie anyway. Mayor Mare I have as Cheerilee's aunt, and they both end up befriending Twilight and assist her with Mayorly duties and stuff.
Spike no longer has a crush on Rarity.

Pinkie will still probably leave ponyville sometime after Rainbow and Rarity do and travel around Equestia. I'm not sure WHAT pushes her to leave, maybe Doodle, but she decides it would be best for her, probably goes to visit her family for a bit. Keeps in touch with Twilight and sometimes Fluttershy with letters. Becomes a motivational speaker and [once back in ponyville] a party planner.
Pinkie's mother and Cup Cake are childhood friends who went separate ways once married, which is how Pinkie comes to live with them in the first place.
I don't have names for her sisters yet, but I'm thinking they are twins [not sure if older or younger than Pinkie].
[[I'm gonna copypaste what I said about Twinkie before: "Not too long after Rainbow and Rarity leave, Twilight is offered to become the next mayor of Ponyvile. Some sort of reality check will happen to Pinkie that will cause her to leave Ponyvile for a while. Either because she needs to get over her crush on Rainbow, who left; maybe to go see her parents; maybe Twilight and her were a thing that didn't last. Or maybe she has a long discussion with Doodle and realizes she wants to see the world like he did. Maybe all three. Twilight agrees to the new position to keep herself busy and distracted from her friends leaving.
Pinkie keeps in touch by writing letters, but she only writes to Twilight. Every night or so she'll send an update of her life, what she's seeing, how she is, what she's learned and maybe who's she with at the time. They send their letters back and forth and eventually whatever they lost [assuming they broke up] comes back.
Spike continues to write letters for Twilight (since her eyesight, while not horrible, starts to drift in her right eye and she needs some help) if she's sending them to Celestia, or Rainbow and Rarity, but the letter's to Pinkie she writes herself.

Props to people who paired Rainbow's parents like this before me. Prism and Rainbow are biologically Rainbow Glen's from a doner/past relationship, and adopted by Firefly. So I know almost 100% of the fandom saw that pony and went "RAINBOW DAD" but I really love the idea of Rainbow having an older brother like Twilight does. So although I try to stick to Faust's words as close as I can, let's make Rainbow not an old child. IF SEASON FOUR PROVES ME WRONG I'LL EDIT IT np.
Still using the idea of Rainbow and Rarity moving to Canterlot, however I'm not sure if I want Rainbow to become a wonderbolt. One ending for her is to have her be a Flight School Coach: mellowyellowpony.deviantart.co… which maybe at first seems very OOC, but honestly she was so sweet to Scootaloo in SIP, why not? She's a big softy.
Rainbow might be Applejack's ex but I'm not sure.

Rarity's pretty standard. Not sure if I want her to have a fling with Fancy Pants or not but I'm going to leave it out for now BUT she does become good friends with him, Fleur, and the other fashion ponies. I feel like there's no other direction to take her than to have her become a hit in Canterlot and have her open a design business or something. But it pretty obvious that Canterlot didn't want a lot to do with her even at the end of S&E, so she still has a way to go.
has a huge secret crush on Rainbow since the BYF competition, which eventually comes to light once they are living together and become a lot closer.

Copypaste what I said about the Apple parents:
"they both aren't apple related because I thought it made sense that on one side of the family it was just FRUIT in general. So Lemon Zest is the sister of "Aunt Orange" and they probably have like a brother who's grape or something. Then she's swept away by this rough and tumble country boy with nothing to offer but his love of her and apples, while the orange sister is snobby and gets married to a rich pony who's just like her.
Plus lemons = best fruit."
So their Mom's side is very citrus based, while the dad is all apple. Since kids grew up on the apple farm, they don't have a lot of citrus love in them.
Not sure if Apple Strudel is related to Braeburn or Babs, but maybe he's their grand father. Maybe Babs is Braburn's sister? Half sister? Maybe their parents split and Babs is a result of the new marriage. Here's hoping for a legit apple family TREE someday.
Originally the plan was to have Fluttershy's cottage burn down, which causes her animals to scatter and she moves in with the apple family. Not sure I'll keep this, but the idea is simple, she grows to spend a lot of time with Applejack and the apple family, and also Scootaloo, who she bonds with due to their lack of flying talent. Scootaloo has a big crush on Apple Bloom, but that won't come to light until later. Fluttershy knows and teases her about it though, and is in turn teased about her crush on Applejack.
Big Mac/Carrot Top are dating, yet not. Basically FWB. I'm thinking both are afraid to be in a real relationship with each other due to the absents of their parents, which leaves them in charge of their respective farms [are carrot farms a real thing? well they are now], more so on CT's side because it's just her and her little sister Parsnip. She spends a lot of time at SAA though and she becomes good friends with Fluttershy too, and her sister grows closer with her schoolmates.
Added the line from Brae to Blueblood. Blueblood/Braeburn is still my OTP for them, and I'm thinking Brae will probably become like a knight or something. Dropped the idea that he dated Fleur though, since that was too much of an inside joke.

THE BACKGROUND PONIES
there's a huge inner circle that I didn't make too clear but Lyra, Twinkle Shine, Lemon Hearts, Minuette, and Amethyst Star are all very close. [sometimes I call them the unicorn clique]. Then add Bon Bon, Berry, Pokey, Sassaflash, Sea Swirl etc and put them in college and get this jumbled mess of friendship. Yeah, I'm putting them in college, sounds fun right. lets pretend there's pony college!

Now the reason Amethyst Star and Rarity are friends, I like the idea of Ammy's family being jewel cutters. Rarity can get the jewels herself of course, but turns to Ammy when she needs them to be a certain shape/size/look for her dresses, and in turn they sometimes need her to find gems for their jewelery. So the gem family is very close and important to Rarity's family [although not so much her parents]. This is how Dinky grows closer to Sweetie Belle and eventually gains a crush on her. Dinky and Ruby are twins [Dinky is the youngest] and Ammy is their older sister.
Berry meets Ammy in college [introduced by Minette, who in turn she meet because of Pokey]. They grow close since Ammy is fancy and loves her some wine (Berry is a wine maker) and just in general having the same group of friends, but they never get together and eventually Ammy starts to date Dry Ice. Berry hates him and never gets over her crush [she thinks its a secret but the gem twins still know and really, Ammy isn't stupid].
Luckily Berry can distract from her heartache by cheering on her friends.

PIERCETTE
Pokey Pierce is a wild and crazy college student who doesn't really know WHY he's in college in the first place, while Minette is the calm and collected bookworm just trying to make it to her next A. Her parents are very high strung, with her father being an English major and her mother being an ex show pony [or I guess that would make her a model?] and as a result, Minette developed a rather prissy attitude towards life when around her parents. In reality, she's extremely shy. The only time she comes out of her shell is when she's reading a history book or when out with her roommate Berry Punch. Berry is the reason the two even meet in the first place, and while they don't hit it off right away, Pokey is still able to charm the historian with his knowledge of art and anatomy. The three stay close through out college but, for reasons I have yet to figure out but will probably be because of her parents, Pokey and Minette never end up together, even though they live in the same town. I think at some point Pokey will end up leaving town for a while, which is how I justify Minette hitting the bars with Berry.

LYRADOO:
Ditzy Doo harbors a crush on Lyra since fillyhood where she is the first to see Ditzy's eyes as actually very cool instead of weird. Although Lyra is not the only pony to withhold making fun of her, Ditzy feels a strong connection to the unicorn since others call her weird as well, and she doesn't quite fit in. Her crush remains mostly a secret though, especially since, once older, Lyra and Bon Bon begin dating.
This however, doesn't last, as Lyra is a rather careless girlfriend and Bon Bon is a little too high maintenance for her. They do remain friends and eventually move in together as roommates. Lyra and Ditzy also grow closer, since Ditzy still sees Lyra as a confidant of sorts when she starts to feel low. Secretly the crush becomes mutual.
Around the same time, Sea Swirl and Ditzy begin dating, while Lyra starts a rather casual relationship with Sassaflash [maybe Sass and Caramel had a similar kind of break to LyraBon].
It becomes clear to all parties that their hearts are not all in it, and (with some pushing from Ditzy's friend Raindrops, the only one to know about her crush) soon Lyra and Ditzy finally get together. Lyra however, while not actually having feelings for her, is still haunted by her break up with Bon Bon and feels if she wasn't good enough for her best friend, how can she be good enough for anyone?

ROSEBON:
Although they remain friends, Bon Bon takes her break up with Lyra the wrong way and decides to swear off females. She decides she wants - no, needs! - a Prince Charming, and what's wrong with that? If Twilight's brother can marry a princess, why can't she get a charming pony? Unfortunately, the males she dates either don't live up to her expectations or she doesn't live to theirs; either way, she falls out of the dating pool after moving in with Lyra and focuses on her candy work.
Enter Roseluck. If there was such a thing as Princess Charming, her sisters say don't look anywhere else. Being a rose obsessed pony, she eventually grows to become incredibly romantic, despite being single for most of her life. Of course, she would fall head over hooves for the one mare-wary-searching-for-her-Prince-Charming-pony.
BONBON AND THE CAKES
have any pony fans seen 'Crazy Stupid Love?' That's basically the same idea here, where the Cakes had Bon Bon when they were young, then waited a while before having more kids. Having Donut Joe be related to them does mess up the canon of the show a bit, but I like the idea of all of them being a family. This also gives me a chance to explore a friendship for Pinkie outside of the mane six, being sort of the Cake's adopted daughter and all.

THE GRAPES / THE FLOWER SISTERS:
There's really not much to Golden and Daisy; they've been crazy about each other since meeting and will probably end up married. honestly I just need more m/f ponies. I'm going to go ahead and spoil it; if I do anything with GoldenDaisy to mess them up, Daisy will end up with Blossomforth I'm about 99% sure of that.
ENTER GOLDEN'S CRAZY BUCK THE SYSTEM SISTER Chardonnay who takes a shine to the youngest flower sister, Lily. Chardy doesn't have a cutie mark, sure she KNOWS she'll end up in the family business and is a really excellent wine maker, but just never bothered to find a talent of her own. Maybe it was wine making? Maybe it's growing grapes? Maybe nothing at all? Who cares. You don't need a symbol on your butt to tell you what you're good at. She lost a lot of friends due to this attitude and the general feelings towards "blank flanks" growing into adulthood, but that made her tougher if you ask her [and her still good friend Berry Punch, i need to add a green line]. Basically if ponies could be biker chicks, this pony would be the hbic.

THUNDERBUG
Junebug is friends with Flitter, who is best friends with Thunderlane and Cloud Chaser. She and Thunder meet because of Flitter and he gains a crush easily. Not sure how to express himself, he shows off for her, all the time. He never pushes her [although the girls insist he should just ask her out already] until one day Junebug asks him out on a date. I think Junebug would be a little bit naive and pretty innocent. I'm getting a Luna Lovegood vibe from her, although that's kind of Ditzy Doo's thing huh.
