I did it 3 years ago, and now I improved some stuff like the background. I'm surprised to see the difference!

The Egyptian goddess Bastet.
She was first a lioness-headed goddess, and really late in Egyptian history (under the XXIInd dynasty) she adopted a cat-head. The dangerous lioness became a gentle, maternal divinity of fertility. But then, she was still in the official spheres represented as a lioness (like on the temple's walls).

When I first found out about Egypt at thirteen years of age, I was fascinated by the culture (but never actually started to take into studying it until only early this year......yeah I'm new to the subject), but Bastet (along with Seth, and Hathor) I was intrigued by, mainly because I have had life long love for cats (I grew up with them, and have always had a cat in my life, whether I owned one or if someone in my family did). I was just not very good at drawing them, but looking at this drawing is giving me the inspiration to try again, (I also want to attempt at drawing tigers and lions too :D).
Anyways as always hun you did an excellent job on this piece

In ancient Egypt, cats were revered as gods.. and they've never forgotten it.

This looks beautiful!! I really love how you did all the details and made the background help you to focus on her more. I also love how you did the lion cub it' so sweet and it ties into the relativity of the image so well 8D

At first (when I saw the smaller version in the message box) I though she's looking at the mirror xD Good idea, it was wise to add an explanation about her origins in the comments, nicely done :)

thank you very much!

Bastet is a really old goddess, she first appears during the 2nd dynasty (around 2800 BC). And she has a lioness head (cats were faaar from being domesticated  )

Hmm, this reminds me of a little toy I saw in an anime movie, I think it was called 'Whispers of the heart' or something. Anyway, nicely executed.
