HISTORY
France has been inhabited for thousands of years.

In 600 BC, Ionian Greeks, founded the colony of Massalia(Marseille).

At the same time, Gallic Celtic tribes spread throughout the rest of France.
From the Gallic tribes came the name Gaul.

Starting from 125-60 B.C. Gaul was conquered by the Roman Empire.

After the collapse of the Roman Empire(5th c A.D., Gaul was divided into several
Germanic kingdoms.

The Franks eventually took over most of the area.
From the Franks came the name France.

Over the past 500 years, France has been a major power in both European
and international events.

During the 30 Years War in the 16th century, conflicts between Catholics
and Protestants led to 200,000 French deaths.

During the 17th century there were brutal persecutions against the Protestant Huguenots.

The long history of violent conflict between Catholics and Protestants led the state
to break its ties to the Catholic Church in the early 1800s and adopt a strong commitment to secularism.

During the 17th -18th centuries, France colonized large areas of North America
and Southeast Asia.

During the 19th-early 20th centuries, France established the second largest
colonial empire of the time, controlling large areas of North, West and Central
Africa, Southeast Asia, and many Caribbean and Pacific Islands

In 2005-7 France suffered through some riots and civil unrest.

CONDITIONS
France is one of the wealthiest and most developed nations in the world.

France enjoys a high standard of living and has one of the world's longest life expectancies.

Christianity is seen as irrelevant and out of date.

Most French have no meaningful contact with dynamic Christian faith.
80% of the population have never even seen a Bible.

Religion tends to be regarded with suspicion.
Recent laws have been introduced that limit the activities of religious 'sects'.
Many small bible-believing churches are in danger of being labeled as 'cults' or 'sects'.

France used to be known as the 'graveyard of missionaries'.
The drop-rate for missionaries continues to be high and many are discouraged.

Islam has grown in significance due to immigrants and is the 2nd most practiced faith.

There is widespread involvement with the occult.
There are 50,000 full-time occultic practitioners.

Wow, you did a lot of research about France. But I don't think praying will be useful.

Maybe it will, maybe it won't, only the future can tell if it will be better.

Thanks for that really interesting article and prayer subjects,
I'm glad you encourage people to pray for our country, we really need some miracles. Being christian is rare and considered ridiculous around here.

(I just want to tell you that I have almost deleted your message, as I thought it was a spam.)

Look, I surely appreciate folks praying for us, but I don't se what's wrong in a secularized country. It's not like Christianity is persecuted here. You are free to practice your faith, whichever it is, what can you ask best? Mutual respect is what secularism is all about here. And wasn't mutual respect a big deal for Christ, 2000 yr ago?

I post these updates, as I mentioned earlier, to raise awareness of conditions
in other countries. Some countries have problems with unemployment and racial issues.
Others face far worse such as wars, famines, and persecution. For some people
all that they can do about situations is to pray.

You're right there is no persectution in France; you're very fortunate
in that. North Korea for example is one of the most repressive regimes
in the world. Citizens there are denied even the most basic human rights. :(

I've been posting updates of countries around the world and one of the things
its taught me is to appreciate the freedoms and blessings one has. Australia for
instance has plenty of freedom and yet at the same time is one of the driest places
on earth and in many areas there is water rationing. :(

Jesus did say to love your enemies and to treat other people the way
you want to be treated. He also said "I am the Way the Truth and the Life."

GOD bless

Hi! Good message, juuuust a little nitpicky about one of the data.

France is the wealthiest nation in Europe and the fourth wealthiest in the world.
Actually the Richest Euro-nation is Germany, France right behind it. This should be "France is the second wealthiest nation and Europe and the fifth wealthiest in the world."

I know that statement deviates from your original purpose (I'm a Christian, I know where you are coming from) but its important to get all facts correct. Many apologies if I am offensive.

Anyways my prayers are given; I've been "monitoring France" as if that makes any sense. I hope we can have another Papal Visit to France soon (I should look up the 2012 Calender on the Vatican website.)

I'm afraid that France has sold it's soul to the devil, along with Britain and soon America will follow with them. So really there is no point of praying for a spiritual revival for any of these nations. I'll pray for our Brothers and Sisters in Christ who are suffering in Europe and in our nation, but I have given up on praying for our leaders as well as the leaders of Europe.

If they wish to be ignorant, then let them be ignorant (1 Corinthians 14:38).

According to those encyclopedias, they say France is a prosperous "Christian-country", but sadly the opposite is true. How sad that this former Christian nation has become so secular and virtually spiritually dead.

In fact, many French continuous to blame GOD for allowing the World Wars to happened there. Atheism is so widespread for that matter.
