Catipa Traidwyn is a Nlian fishery scientist and manager.
She is the mother of Tuskaro Alyen, a major character in ‘New Start’, my AU Star Trek saga.



She was born on the tiny Northern Continent in the port city of Casil, which was famous for its harbor and its inhabitants
for their fishing, boatbuilding and sea faring.

She herself came from a family of seafarers. Her mother, Taysta Sheon was a skilled fisher. 



 Her father, Divo Traidwyn was a sailor who had traveled to every port on Nlia.



She had an older brother, Paon  and a younger sister, Wylay.

Catipa was a very self confident woman with a lot of personality. She possessed a keen wit, combined with a great zest for life.  She enjoyed being around people and loved social gatherings.

Although her parents loved the sea and her brother became a ship builder, Catipa's interests lay with rivers. She was fascinated with them and loved observing the life cycles and behaviors of living creatures that inhabited the areas near them. She was a skilled fisher, swimmer and canoer. Traveling by kayak or canoe along a river was one of her favorite pastimes and she thrilled at discovering what was behind each new river bend.

As an adult she moved inland to the city of Skadi which was famous for its rivers. There she began a successful career in both fishery and river management and she proved to be adept at both inventory and organization.

Eventually she met Stovar Alyen a young engineer/designer.  She found herself drawn to his calm, steady ways and was impressed with his seemingly endless patience. He also shared her humor and enjoyment of life.  They became lifemates in 2225.

It was five years before the Mating struck them, but strike it finally did and in 2230 their daughter Prylae was born



Then in 2233 Zolee joined their family



To their joy the Mating struck a third time and in 2236 their youngest child, Tuskaro was born.

Prylae took after her mother in her confident, outgoing ways. Zleen was quieter but very gregarious. Little Tuskaro was quiet and rather shy, but shared his mother's love of rivers and exploration.

The family suffered some losses. In 2238 her lifemate's mother, Trosala Vinter died and in early 2243 her father, Divo Traidwyn, died. This loss was particularly hard on seven year old Tuskaro who had been very close to his grandfather.

Not long afterwards Stovar received a prestigious commission in the city of Khasha in the Western Land. The project would take six months so the entire family relocated temporarily.

It was somewhat of a shock for the L’Naym family. The Western and Eastern lands, known collectively as the Southern Lands, were a stark contrast to the North. They were used to dense forests not vast deserts. And the smaller cities of the North were nothing like the huge city states of the South. But they quickly saw it as an adventure. In the desert fresh water were more valuable than gold and Catipa knew that she would appreciate rivers even more when she got home! She spent a lot of time around the city hydrologists learning as much she could about their methods of water management.


While in Khasha, Stovar became acquainted with Farseen L'Naym a member of the prestigious Zoresha Guild. The two men worked closely on the project and a friendship formed. Through this friendship their families met. Farseen’s lifemate, Kalii Ryleth had died of an illness not long after giving birth. His daughter Shylea had been raised an only child as a result and she quickly bonded with the Alyen children. She formed a particularly close bond with her agemate Tuskaro. 

When the Alyens moved back North after the project was over, they remained in contact and Tuskaro and Shylea’s friendship remained and grew ever stronger over the years. Their friendship eventually grew to love and in 2258 they lifemated.  Not long afterwards they left Nlia to join Starfleet and explored countless new river bends.
