Wow That's deep gaze lol Their attitude makes me think of the "foreign gods" of the Baudelaire's poem "Les Hiboux". Congrats for this enigmatic and unusual shot, I never saw an owl resting on the grass like that, not to mention two..

They looked serious, almost immobile. I approached the maximum, but the place was marshy and my feet began to sink (lol).

But yes, I thought of the symbolism of the owls ... the eyes (not just owls) are like ways for the perception of the spirits. So I made the connection wisdom/impartiality as if they're foreign observers. After all they lived in a very turbulent urban park.

Oh that could explain why they seem having considered themselves in security on the ground in broad daylight.. they were surrounded by water, and cats don't like water.. (speaking of cats and symbolism, to see an owl by day was regarded as an evil omen, like black cats today, by Romans for whom this -usually- nocturnal bird was associated with death) They remind me of meerkat sentinels also. But it's still surprising for birds not to seek refuge high up.. although, cats climb trees.. Maybe those birds have found here the best place for their impassive meditation... in the eye.. of the cyclone. :)

In fact, this species of owl inhabits holes in the ground, dug by other small animals. They are very common in pastures, but I had never seen them in urban areas. I do agree ... a bit as if inside cyclone eye.Hug

Ah this is the burrowing owl, Google tells me. I didn't know this American specie. Definitely reminds of meerkats. And indeed they are killed by cats, and dogs, foxes, snakes... But the nocturnal perching owls have many predators too... I have learned something interesting thanks to you Mayumi :)
