You can use also resources from outside Deviantart as well (please make sure you use stocks from legitimate sites). I wanted to promote the stock providers on Deviantart, but I also realize for this theme it can be quite difficult. I received messages from fellow deviants to allow this and also did a poll to know your opinions.

The main goal of this contest is to have FUN and to learn and challenge yourself. Good luck and I hope you come up with something extraordinary




Hello dear friends,

Thanks for all your notes, faves and support over the years since I have been a member on Deviantart! I am glad and proud to be a part of this great community! Therefore, I would like to organise my first contest! I am quite excited and hope you will be too! And off course, with all contests come great prizes! 

I am still looking for donations, so if you want to contribute you are very welcome!! No donation is too small. It can be points, features, premium stocks, memberships, prints, etc…You can leave me a note, or give a comment below under this journal. Donors will receive a feature from lauraypablo (Thanks Laura!)

If this contest turns out to be a success, I am planning to organise more in the future.

:bademoticon: THEME: TALES WITH A TWIST

This contest will be held from January 16 to May 16, 2020.  
There have to be at least 20 entries for this contest to be valid.

BRIEFING

Choose any character from well-known fairytales (you are free to choose) and transform him/her quite the opposite of how we know them from the original tales (e.g. brothers Grimm, H.C. Andersen, Perrault, etc…). Lewis Carroll’s characters are allowed as well (as technically this is seen as a modern fairy tale).

There are two possibilities, either you transform a good character into an evil one or you choose quite the opposite (turn an evil character into a good one). Focus on concept, techniques (skills) and execution is very important for this contest as I want to challenge you to do your best and encourage you to think outside-of-the-box! If possible, leave your comfort zone, try new techniques and don’t be afraid to experiment!

Beginners:
don’t be afraid to join this contest! Practice art is the best way to learn something!

CATEGORIES

BEGINNER - APPRENTICE – ADVANCED

Choose your category wisely when submitting your work (it’s like the ‘Sorting Hat’ from Harry Potter, but instead of the hat you need to choose yourself ). If you are unsure and you need advice in which category you need to submit, please let me know and I’ll be happy to assist! It makes sense that a beginner doesn’t submit to advanced and vice versa.

Stunning artworks from fellow deviants that can inspire you (please don’t copy).

RULES

Now, before you can start creating, there are some ground rules to follow:
(There have to be at least 20 entries for this contest to be valid)

  You must watch my DA account and fav this journal.
  You must be a member of Deviantart.
 Only photomanipulations & mixed media (with most of a photo manipulation) are accepted.
 Your artwork must be new and created exclusively for this contest. Only submissions posted after January 16, 2020 will be accepted.
 Your artwork needs to have a unique concept and tell a story.
 All the stocks you use in your artwork can come from Deviantart or from outside legitimate stock resources sites. (update March 21, 2020)
  All stock and resources (like brushes) must come from legitimate sources. More information on this topic can be found in these journals:

  You can create maximum 2 entries for this contest, but only one can win.
  No DA watermark, just your little signature.

What you need to add in the description of your artwork:

1. A link to this journal and the icon of my DA account
2. The category you have chosen; beginner, apprentice or advanced.
3. A brief explanation about your concept and character.
4. Which fairy tale your artwork is referring to.
5. Credit all stocks and resources you used with a direct link (including brushes). Stocks that have been deleted must be credited with the link to the stock provider’s profile (if the stock comes from a deactivated account, you must still credit them with the name of the original owners).

  No excessive violence, racism, gore stuff, etc… Nudity is allowed, but it has to be created with good artistic taste.
  Submit your entries in the comments below this journal.
  I reserve the right to decline any work with too poor quality, or if it doesn’t meet the rules of this contest (or doesn’t fit the theme).
  You must have fun while creating your masterpiece!
