30 Days of Night - Drawing

Sooo.... just in case you were wondering what I was doing during the last 6 weeks, here it is. The latest proof of my obsession with texture and details.

This drawing was my companion during the whole summer, while I studied, freaked out over my first state exam, finally had holidays etc so it means quite a lot to me. Plus, it's one of the rare pieces I'm almost satisfied with.

Tools:
Reference picture: Movie still from 30 Days of Night
0.3, 0.5 and (mostly) 0.7 mechanical pencils
size: a bit smaller than A3
time: as I said, around 6 weeks, countless hours. No friggin clue.

Aaaand last but not least, it's my second entry for =Diamond4girl's 'Drawn to a Moment Contest' [link] (can't believe I made it in time! :la:)

------------------

Edit: Changed the file because there was a strange dark spot on the left eye (note to myself: clean scanner from time to time)

------------------

Edit 2: WTF A DD? I still can't believe it. Thank you so much for all the faves and especially the wonderful comments.

I can understand you needed a lot of time to draw this, but it was worth the effort. Wow!!!! I has something surreal, it looks almost like a snow spirit or a spirit of the forrest. I realy love it. The only little thing that draws a little to much attention is the line, branch or hair that is falling down the right side of the face. When I look at the drawing my eye is drawn to that and it is difficult to let go. But that is just a minor thing. My compliments with this piece of art!!!!!!!!!

Ok this has got to be one of the most beautiful pieces i have ever seen.I just don't know how you had the patient to draw this.Every single detail is just perfect, the lighting, the shading, the monochrome, the texture on this drawing is just amazing,i mean every single detail is just beautiful. The background is perfect,it looks like a blizzard going on,and the snow on the fur of the jacket looks so real like he was through a snowstorm. The eyes have to be my favorite part, they look so real, and the skin looks exactly like the real thing, this is definitely Daily Deviation worthy.
Good Job!

Oh my god, I am absolutely speechless! The detail and skill of this drawing is impeccable and your skill is priceless. The fur and face and the eyes and the mouth! WOW. I would trade just about anything to be at lease half as good as you are, you know I'm really running out of things to say so just ignore this part right here:

omg omg omg omg omg omg capitals capitals capitals capitals omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg

Is that enough? I think so xD Anyways... I congradulate you on your skill and talent and hope you try to pursue your artistic talents

This piece of art must have taken hours upon hours. And that’s what makes this a great picture.
The detail I see goes to the finest point, no smudges.
The focus beyond the man isn't clear at all; "but that’s what you intended on, so congrats."
The fur on the hood rim is very random, so I assume it must be windy.
And the snow, my god I can't draw snow, but his looks flawlessly done, as if you had done this portrait once before.
The man’s face also gives a sense of suspense; by either what we imagine he is looking at, or where he has been.
The light source is clear.
And the symmetry of the face is also flawless.

This movie by the way was very good, violence wise.
What made you choose this guy?

Other than that, can I fav. this like 30 times?

I'm honestly not even sure how you had the patience to create every single bit of texture here, but you definitely have a skill.

My only real critique here is that everything is so textured that there is almost nothing to break up the shapes. To my eye, it's so busy and intense that it all kind of just blends into itself. Perhaps that was your intention?

Regardless, beautiful work. I especially like the eyes and the lips. He has a very deep and captivating stare that you managed to capture quite well! Grats on the DD, it is well deserved.

Thank you so much for your critique

I actually appreciate very much what you wrote in the second paragraph because that's exactly what I'm struggling the most with at the moment: How to make a drawing as realistic as possible without getting lost in (probably unnecessary?) details.

Thanks again.

Oh my word. This is simply amazing. No other words could describe this but alas I have to make this critique 100 words xD

The incredible detail gone into creating the textures of this piece is well put, phenomenal.
Shadow and light have been used unbelievably to create a stunning piece of artwork.

Now I might be overdoing the amount of adjectives I am using but once more this work highlights the amount of pure talent the artist has and the patience they must have to be able to spend so long drawing this masterpiece.
True talent isn't shown by speed, but by technique, patience and care. Three qualities the artist has shown with this work.
I congratulate you on such a brilliant piece, and carry on creating, you clearly have a gift.
