Of all the places Maggie Russet expected to be on a cold Monday Morning, a lawyer's office was not one of them. She had to take the morning off work to be here. She didn’t mind that part; it was probably the only plus side to the situation. It did mean eating into her PTO, however. There wasn’t anything for it, though. Her spouse, Journey, couldn’t meet with the lawyer. They had their own legal proceedings to attend to, and judges were less forgiving than lawyers.
The whole thing had started strangely enough. Journey was estranged from their family. They were extremely wealthy and extremely conservative. The family had long since disowned them, leaving Journey to find their own way in life without their help. So, when a letter came in the mail requesting a meeting, they disposed of it, not wanting to deal with their family.
