Hardware for Local AI use.
As of February 2026, getting that crazy cool hardware to run AI locally has become unattainable to many. Pricing on things are far beyond most people's ability to buy.
But.. it does not take the latest, hottest, most expensive hardware to run AI locally.
An example: I have my desktop here, it is an Intel I7 from 2017. ( 9 years old). I also have an Nvidia 1070 GTX graphics card. It works just fine for AI research.
However.. I also and a laptop with an Intel I5 CPU and an Nvidia 1650 GPU. As far as graphics cards (GPU) goes, that sucks. But I can still run AI work on it. Why?
Why old hardware can still work: When you use some tools like Ollama or LM Studio, they detect what hardware you have an configure themselves to try and run in it. It may not be fast, but it still runs. There are little things you will learn along the way about what will or will not actually work for you, but you are learning as you go.

Grey and Miyuki finished their meal together, both deciding to finish off the meal with a green tea ice cream cone to go, thanking the owners of the shop on their way out who gave a small bow and a smile.
