The Golden West
The "Golden West" Alternate Timeline: 1959–2026
By shifting the timeline of Western Australian politics in the mid-20th century, the state avoided the early, cheap sell-off of its natural resources.
Instead, a prolonged Labor era laid a highly regulated foundation, which a subsequent pragmatic Liberal government weaponized to turn Western Australia into the wealthiest, most infrastructure-rich state in the Southern Hemisphere.
Timeline of Major Events
1959: The Labor Survival
March 21: Premier Albert "Bert" Hawke defies the historic preference strategy of the Democratic Labor Party (DLP) and narrowly retains government for the Australian Labor Party (ALP).
The Transits Safeguarded: Backed heavily by the powerful tramway unions, the Hawke government freezes plans to dismantle Perth’s tram lines, allocating state funds to keep the network operational.
1960–1962: The Resource Freeze
December 1960: The Federal Government lifts its long-standing embargo on iron ore exports.

The Brotherhood of Behavior: Molecular Mimicry, Plausible Deniability, and the Case for Regulatory Reform
A Term Paper on Lead, PFAS, and the Structural Failure of American Toxic Substance Governance
Abstract
This paper synthesizes the biochemistry of lead and PFAS toxicity with the organizational behavior of the industries that produced them, to argue that the primary barrier to public health protection is not scientific uncertainty but structural incentive design. Lead and PFAS represent two generations of the same behavioral pattern: a toxic substance is incorporated into a product, the body's own maintenance chemistry becomes the delivery mechanism, the kidney — the only exit — is simultaneously the target, and the industry deploys a standardized playbook of denial, delay, and substitution. Current federal regulation is actively rolling back in both domains. The paper concludes with practical guidelines for individuals and a specific reform agenda.

Arbitrariness In The Law
There is a common perception that arbitrariness in the law is a bad thing. It is not. This essay seeks to explain why, and to clarify when arbitrariness is a problem.
It is nearly impossible to devise laws that are not in some respect arbitrary. Sometimes the general thrust of the law is not arbitrary but the details are. Start with an uncontroversial law: the prohibition on burglary. Everybody agrees that burglary should be illegal and everybody agrees on why burglary should be illegal. Not everybody agrees, however, on exactly what the law should say. English common law defined burglary as breaking and entering into the dwelling house o...

HOPLITE
Origin story as told by Malcolm StillerIt started as a flight system. When the Bell Rocket Belt turned out to be nothing more than an expensive toy. Thirty seconds of flight, who could be satisfied with that? The trick was, learning how supers fly, and mimicking that. I wanted to swim in the air, but, I needed a way to power it, that didn’t involve strapping an industrial generator on my back. The batteries available were nowhere near, what I needed. Then, I got the chance to study several supers, that’s where we first discovered paragravity, its relation to unaided flight and its similarity to phenomena like psychokinesis. Then, in...
