In ancient times, this Pokemon caused all sorts of mischief and mayhem with people. As punishment, it was bound in 13 rings, and made to bring with it each coming new year since then. Still prone to pulling minor tricks, people are encouraged to light red lanterns on the eve of each new year to ward this Pokemon off.
Formes: Xinian <--> ???
Happy 2012, everyone! Just yesterday it occurred to me that a legendary pokemon in charge of the new year, has yet to be done (well, at least officially).
Xinian's name is actually a take on "Xin Nian", "New Year" in Chinese. Plus the critter himself is based on the Nian of Chinese mythology, which was the enemy of the zodiac animals, and kept at bay by the color red.
As a bonus, the character on its lantern means "prisoner", showing the amount of trouble this little guy got himself into.
And what's that? Xinian can evolve change form? Hmmm......
That is neato! "bound in 13 rings," I'm guessing there's a 13th ring on him that i don't see? I like just about everything I see here. And why is there no official dragon/fire type? Isn't it the most obvious choice for a dragon? It would of been awesome for Charizard...
You probably missed his "collar", which is also a ring. ^^
And well, there is Reshiram, which is currently the sole fire/dragon Pokemon of the roster. But yeah, seems like it would be the most sensible type to make. Guess Game Freak wants to take its time with their dragons. : p
