Despite its name and appearance, this particularly rare Joker has a poor sense of vision and specializes in the manipulation of sound. A master of ventriloquism and mimicry, it can also generate a cloak of illusion to disguise its bird-like "puppet limbs" in any form imaginable. It may develop up to a dozen of these appendages at any given time, but only one, armed with wicked claws, is its true lower body.
An Opticaper feeds primarily on blood slurped through its multiple beaks and digested within its massive eyeball, turning the orb a deep red after every meal. When cornered, it sprays blood and other excess fluids from its clawed anus or sheds its living "puppets" to serve as a distraction.
said to make an eyeball clown for her and by the time I made a sketch that I liked, I really wanted to make it an official monster, too. This also made me go back and update all the other clown-like monsters with newer, cleaner art (this makes six of them) and give them their own distinct "joker" class, which I like to think is created by some sort of queen, like termites.
Of almost all the monsters I have ever drawn, this one took more attempts than any other before I drew one good enough to scan. I ruined several sheets of paper just sketching, erasing and re-sketching to fit its weird body on a single page. I am HORRIBLE at planning the composition of these, I pretty much just wing it every single time and always end up with poses a little more scrunched than I intended. I wound up sacrificing more chicken-arms that this guy was supposed to have, but I think it came out looking better with just a couple!
I tried to make it as Clownish as possible without using really obvious clown characteristics and keeping it mainly just an eyeball and tentacles.
