Despite being a task usually handled by the crew on rotation, Vlori decided to take on the ballast maintenance herself this time.. It was supposed to be Artie's shift, but she insisted on swapping schedules without offering much of a reason.

No one questioned it too deeply—just another one of Vlori’s quiet decisions. She prepped her gear methodically, triple-checking every valve and seal before stepping into the cold chamber. The ballast tank wasn’t dangerous, but it was dark, damp, and mechanical—a place most avoided unless absolutely necessary.

As she descended into the murky compartment, the only sounds were her own breathing and the distant groan of metal. Whatever her reason, Vlori was determined to see this through on her own.
