As I was browsing a bit through Youtube, I can across an interesting video uploaded by Vox called ''Why people are buying these cartoon cats on blockchain'' Well, at first I thought ''Oh, adoptable's became a huge thing outside the furry fandom?'' but when I clicked the video, I was surprised.
Let me tell you what a Crypto Kitty is: There are websites where they sell ''Crypto Kitties''. Those Crypto Kitties are lazy looking JPEG's of cartoon cats. No animation, no games, nothing. They all have the same pose and slightly different features, like one wears a hat and another one is rainbow colored. When you buy them, you can breed them and resell them again. These JPEG's can sell between 10 dollars to a few 1000's (You can buy a fursuit from that money!) The problem is that: When you buy these, you do NOT own the rights to the image or character itself, you only bought the code. I have heard how ''cool it feels to own something for yourself'' while in reality, you don't own anything in that picture.
I know a lot of people on DeviantArt are familiar with Fursona, OC's, Adoptables etc. But imagine a kid, who's new to the furry fandom and wants to own a fursona, goes to a website like that, pays 10-20 bucks for a sucky artwork and then realises he owns NOTHING of that image. If you make art of your Crypto Kitties or pay an artist to draw them, the company will automatically OWN YOUR WORK.
Please, you can buy an adoptable for a few points or just draw something yourself. If you just really like to collect online goods, please use Steam or Quidd instead. This was an PSA.
