This is  epic artistry on multiple levels, race craft, landscape, Arena. Nothing dull or depressing in this setting, all I see is old school high adventure and fun! Sublime.[ YURI ON ICE ] Applause.

What is atmospheric pressure on mars in this hypothetical situation? also is it mostly still carbon dioxide or is there some oxygen too?

I have no Idea. Dense enough for pigs to fly in it:) (Smile)
Should be enough oxygen for air breathing engines to operate, but not for humans to wander around without scuba gear.

Gotchya, I'm thinking of using ABRE (air breathing rocket engine) type engines for my vehicle. I'm just going to assume it's 1/20th atmospheric pressure though, should be right i imagine?

Actually it's 1/21st atmospheric pressure, soo... Sorry. No go.
Nah it can be whatever you want.

Actually, at a later date I want to start another challenge and have propellers as a requirement...
I've always wanted to make a propeller drive aircraft and this could be a perfect opportunity.

Here's a thought guys,  when all our racers are finished it would be so cool if one of us could make a render of the actual race ! or at least 3 of the coolest models, i say that because i don't know if anyone has a computer big enough to take all the racers in one render.
Anyway what do you think ?

Technically can't the vehicle be at least 50m if it fits in a 30m cube? Xp

Mine fits in a 30m cube, but is 5/16th of an inch longer than 30m, is that allowed?

You know first I thought Oh crap... But then..  The act of cheating and bending the rules to get a head is an integral part of motorsport.
If someone comes up with a 45m long ship and proves it fit's the box we'll have a fantastic debate with tons of comments= entertainment and THAT is what we're here for:) (Smile)

Here's a hint, the rule would be specifically for me.

Nope! Feel free to arm your machine to the hilt. Then shoot anyone who objects to it... Can I ask some advice? I have been contacted by this guy from CGtrader and he wants me to use their site for my models is. They're nowhere near animation ready or uv mapped or anything so I won't be able to sell any5hing. Is it worth it?

Here's a dropbox test, cockpit and pilot seats.  I might not look like much progress but I've been focusing on the canopy frame which is damn tedious work. curves in all fracking directions and you know SU doesn't do these things very well, so I've had to work out some methods and improvisations over thew years..

uggh yeah I hate modelling that kind of thing.. I tried to do a similar thing on my canopy.

dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/49…; Obviously not as smoothly as you managed.. I tend to give up after a while and go for body lol.  At least I gave it weather stripping.

These are great!
What render program do you use?
Do you have a plan for how the fusion reactor is going to run the craft?

To me it's one og those unglorified super important parts of a model. When done correctly people don't notice. It just fills in to a preconieved slot in the mind. When done badly or not at all it becomes a glaring omission that shouts amateur. I can spend two days on the frame alone and I have never heard anyone mention the canopy fram ever..

Like a transformer? Well you'll do just like a ton of legendary race cars have done before you...
You'll go on to dominate the season and then be promptly banned from next year (and solely responsible for a brand new chapter in an ever expanding rulebook):) (Smile) :) (Smile)

But everyone knows those are the most interesting cars!  Like my personal favorite, the Chaparral 2J, which used a big twin turbine fan system to literally 'suck' it to the track.  But it got banned because it kept shooting rocks out the exhaust at the people behind it.

EXACTLY like the Caparrtal 2J, or Lotus 78 Which had a "secret" differential that the team covered up in the pits. It was just a ruse to get attention away from the REAL reason the car was so good..  Which was a ground effect skirt...

or many of these: www.theguardian.com/sport/2008…
It's all part of the fun and it adds authenticity to out little challenge!

That's what I wanted to hear mate!
Actually it wasn't my idea even. I just posted some wip's of my Martian aeroracer, and then Red Sands Riot decided to gatecrash..
Lo and behold, we had a challenge on our hands!
There will be many, many more, cos this is just soo much more fun than drawing alone in a corner. I haven't felt this inspired in years!
