i saw the hospitals. by schriftsteller i saw the hospitals. by schriftsteller
better representation this time.
yesterday was clouded over.

"we saw the western coast
i saw the hospitals--
nursed the shoreline like a wound."

"i contemplate the day we wed
your friends are boring me to death--
your veil is ruined in the rain.
by then it's you i can do without--
there's nothing new to talk about."

"i lie for only you
& i lie well..."

in particular.
i collect my old hospital bands
& my family's.

I had never heard of people keeping their hospital bands and I personally haven't done it. But it does seem an accurate way to keep track and reflect over hospital stays.

Are you kidding??? This photo is amazingly done and it just screams to be featured everywhere. The substance behind it just makes it that much better.

Yeah, it is for sure. I'm pretty sure that not many people do it. It's just something I started doing without really asking myself why I was keeping them. Reflection is definitely a big part of it, though.

i had a box of all the hospital bands i've collected since i was 17
and i don't know why i do it, but it's almost like a trophy? like i remember
making it through all this shit. all my visits were always alone too, my
family or siblings didn't really care so much to keep me company. i think
that's what made me want to hang on to them so tightly. cause i made it.

my ex found them and thought it was weird, almost threw them away
(i think he did? haven't seen that box around in almost a year).

or maybe we're just fucked up people dude, but why do you keep them?

I have a bag. It's pretty stuffed right now. I don't remember exactly when I started collecting them but if I really cared to figure it out I could just read the dates on them. I keep my own and my mom's and I have my grandmother's bracelet she wore when she died. That one is probably a weird one to keep. I had to specifically ask for it and the hospital chaplin went to the morgue to get it for me. I just really really had to have it.

I think your reasoning is better than mine. I keep mine more as reminders that that's where I've been-- not necessarily that I made it through. I want to be able to look at the mess I've been, that I'm trying to stay away from being anymore, and know that it happened. My memory is absolutely terrible except with traumatic things from my teenage years til now and other random things I hold on to like how/why my cuts happened. I guess this is a way for me to always remember what happened. I'm pretty much just a fucked up person haha. I think your way of looking at it is much better and probably loads healthier. It's become a compulsion for me-- I get upset if my mom throws hers out and I can't keep them. I'm sorry you lost your box.

:/ a memory hoarder. i told my shrink that a few weeks ago,
that i felt like a memory hoarder- it's common with victims of trauma.

Yeah, I do hoard memories for sure. It seems to just be bad ones, tho, which is even more unhealthy. Interesting that it's a common thing with trauma victims. But it does make sense.
