EA's acquisition (corruption) of BioWare marked the beginning of the end. BioWare were the masters of interactive storytelling, setting the standard for video game immersion. Truly, they were pioneers of the video game industry. However, EA do not care for how innovative a game is, only for how much money it makes. For this reason, BioWare have neglected their original formula for the sake of cashing in on trends that make more money, and in the process forsaking the greatness that defined them. By compromising everything that set them apart, they have become just like everybody else, with nothing new to offer. It is because of this that BioWare exists now only as a name.
The BioWare I remember didn't sacrifice its core fanbase to appeal to a larger crowd. The BioWare I remember didn't push day-one DLC, pre-order DLC, season passes, online passes, microtransactions, loot boxes, etc... The BioWare I remember resembles nothing of the BioWare of today.
It has been heartbreaking for me to watch this tragedy unfold over the years...
EA have an established reputation for acquiring studios, only to shut them down for not making enough money. I believe BioWare's fate is tied to its upcoming game, Anthem, and will be determined by how much money it makes. Anthem is a Destiny-esque online-only multiplayer shooter. Competing in a market they have little to no experience in is not going to end well...
If my prediction comes true, I will not cry, for BioWare is already dead to me.
This heraldry is featured in the "A New Hero Reigns!" poster: i.pinimg.com/originals/f5/42/8…. Once Logan is overthrown, the poster will be displayed on the loading screen. The same heraldry is also featured in the "Albion Ale" poster, albeit without the Guild Seal. At some point, I might come back to this and add in the sword and sceptre from the poster. What do you think?
