Pokemon board game design stage 2

Description

My brother and I designed a pokemon board game utilizing the pokemon card game.
The intent was to use the cards and make a game that was more epic and incremental like the pokemon video games. This was one of our first design stages.
We used a posterboard whiteboard so we could change the design. I have since painted the game on foam board and will upload those images once I am done.
The spaces are the wooden tokens I created for the game based on the images for the various status conditions and experience point markers for the pokemon.
The red & green spaces represent towns where you can buy things, visit the pokecenter to store/retrieve your pokemon or have your pokemon healed and visit the professor to get quests or to have other advanced encounters. The blue spaces are wild pokemon locations where you draw a random pokemon card that you "see" in the wild and can choose to fight it our leave it be. The yellow spaces are Team Rocket encounters where you must fend off Team Rocket or they will steal things from you. The purple spaces are encounters with other trainers. You can choose to accept their challenge and battle either 1 or 2 of their pokemon against one or two of your pokemon.
The larger divided octagon in the middle was the eight gyms where you would have to battle the gym leaders.
The central octagon was the pokemon league where you would challenge the other players to win the game. You would first have to defeat a number of gyms before proceeding to the pokemon league.

It is an interesting concept but takes a long time to play. We had to come up with methods for "saving" our games and restarting at other times. The other issue was it required far more energy cards to play- especially certain energy cards that are more rare in the decks like metal and dark. We ended up printing and cutting out energy cards and placing them in the sleeves to mix them through the deck.

Still it was a neat concept and I think the board has some artsy merit so I thought I would show others it.
