hiya, yes, this piece and the maori tiki manaia piece were made for a close friend as a wedding gift for her and her partner, the collection of mixed media bone and jade pieces were made as b-day,xmas gifts for family members, carved specifically with our hapu(subtribe)culture into it.as of now,i have only ever sold 1 or 2 pieces, very rarely have i done commision pieces due to time avalible, currently just bought a house,so reno work is flat out at the mo,and wont be doing a lot on the carving side until thats out of the way, will be building a workshop in that process though purposly for jade and bone work, and will then look into maybe selling a few pieces and doing commision work, cheers

Wow what special gifts! I have never sold a piece, I don't think I would do well with selling them anyway... It just doesn't sit properly yet I suppose, I'm not quite at that level yet anyway. Congratulations on your new home that is very exciting, and good luck with your new workshop! =)

Beautiful work! The shapes have a lovely fluidity and intricacy to them.

And I don't know if it's the effect you were going for, but I find the little greenstone club too cute for words :giggle:

beautiful work, as usual. :)
how did you decide where the pounamu inlay would be placed?

thanx,Manaia is traditionally a spiritual guardian, supposedly protecting the wearer from harms way and untimely death, the Pounamu inlay placed in the hand of the lower Manaia is a "wahaika",a short club used by Maori warriors (very effectivly)in close quarter combat
